Learn the basics of how to optimize microwave circuits in AWR MWO. You will design a basic 2-way Wilkinson power divider and graph the pertinent S-parameters to analyze the circuit.

hi thank you for your video, I am not getting optimizer enable button in individual component properties, Can you suggest the solution?

There's small buttons in the properties window which enable or disable entries and columns. Check them to make sure you didn't deselect the optimizer columns/options.

Hi Anthony, thank you for sharing these videos they are very helpful. I have a question, when I follow along and get to the part where you hit "start" on the optimizer I immediately get an error "A simulation error has occured. The values of the optimized variables that caused this error have been saved under the name "Error" The values of the optimized variables that resulted in the lowest cost have been saved under the name "Best". Clock the Revert button to change to these states." In the status window I see two errors 1) "Factorization of matrix failed due to non-finite entries in matrix" and 2) "Measurement - wilkinsonPowerDivider:DB(|S(3,2)|): Failed to get data from simulator. Do you know why I'm getting this error? Thanks, Dave

This is super late, please forgive me. This is a simulator level error I've gotten in the past. Sometimes what fixes it is copying your design into a fresh, new project file. Sometimes reinstalling the program fixes it. Sometimes you have a problem in your design but if you're copying the video then it should work. I hope you were able to resolve the problem without my year-late response.

Why is the length of MLINs whose characteristic impedance is 50 ohms is your value HALF? It would not be "L50" = 9.01163 (as you showed us int he TXLINE tool)?? Thanks

The characteristic impedance of a microstrip transmission line (MLIN) is determined by the width of the line, not the length. The length of the line only determines the apparent electrical length of the line. As far as why HALF, it's because the feed line to a Wilkinson power divider is half-lambda in order to simulate a 0 degree propagation delay. See Equation 3.196 in Pozar's "Microwave Engineering" (4th Edition), Page 148 for "Formulas for Effective Dielectric Constant, Characteristic Impedance, and Attenuation" of Chapter 3.8 "Microstrip Line" drive.google.com/file/d/1v9TftAmv05An_h0LSdxXR6_YP6V7kvxI/view
