How To (or Should You) Use the Woodland Scenics Just-Plug Lighting System

Just got into this system about a month ago. I must say these are fantastic for modular systems- I have an expansion hub and light hub on each of my modules and can easily connect and disconnect the hubs to other modules I have. I agree with everything you said and im overall extremely impressed :)

Having recently started using a Just Plug system, and initially having 5 lights, I went the route of one Light Hub with a Port Sharing Device. I was surprised by the small size of the Port Sharing Device as well!

What’s the difference between splicer plugs and linker plugs? How would you use each?

Good question. When you buy a splicer plug package, you get 12 splicer plugs. They connect two bare end wires together. A linker plug package contains 6 splicer plugs and 6 pigtail wires each with a female connector on one end. Example, the linker plug package would be used to connect a street light which has bare ends to a pigtail wire which is then plugged into a light hub. In reality, a linker plug package is more useful...Harold

Wow, you went all out and bought one of each! Haha. Great video Harold! Very thorough review. Overall I love this system, but I must say, the wires are so small that they break easily and then I find them hard to strip again to get a good contact. Also, you don't really have to drill a large hole for the plug to go through. Just feed the wires through a smaller hole and then attach the plug. Unless the ones you purchased are one piece then ignore what I said. With my goosenecks, I just fed the wires through my hole and then attached the plugs. Way easier. Lights make a huge improvement, your layout looks great lit up.

Thanks. I look forward to your comments. Yes...I bought a lot of components which I will eventually use on my layout. One could pull the small wires through the hole and then attach the Light Hub connector but that would require soldering and it might do bad things to the resistor that is integrated with the lights. Or, one could use a linker plug to avoid soldering. Beyond that, you're right, those small light wires are a pain in the a.s....Harold

Can you use 3 v aftermarket lights with the just plug system

Thanks for your question. I'm not sure if that would work without other changes. The power supply produces 24v DC and the just plug lights have appropriate built-in resistors. At minimum, one would have to install appropriate resistors and some sort of plug system that connects the aftermarket lights to whatever is being used to control and power them. Great stuff im about to do a video on the same thing but its intresting the prices you pay and we pay. Lets take the Wall plug transformer. Your price $19 My Price same thing here in Australia $75 so i bought some hubs controllers and some lights all up you could have scooped the lot for about $200USD for me $1320.90 USD with JAN2023 Conversion rate. Ahh the lucky country stay safe
