This reminds me of when I was on holiday in Barcelona, Spain, as a child many years ago. My parents asked in English, for three lots of strawberry ice cream for us kids. The waiter came out with three massive glasses of strawberries, ice cream and cream. The look of horror on my mother's face was only matched by the look of delight on the faces of my sister, brother and I.

Your videos are great. I'm just commenting on things I was corrected on in Spain. In most of (i guess) Latin America, it is okay to say acá for here, the better way is aquí. They also pounced on me for ahorita (ahora), platicar (charlar), and carro (coche, although a carrito de compras is okay since carro is a cart, as in no motor).

Yes! I was in Ecuador for 4 months and I definitely noticed the differences in the Spanish that they speak there versus the Spanish that most books teach you. I remember them saying acá instead of aquí and carro versus coche. They also add -ito/-ita to the end of so many objects like ropas to make it ropitas haha

I've been hitting Duolingo pretty hard the last few months trying to brush up on my long forgotten high school spanish, and figured I could nail such a simple transaction. Hah, woops, fue demasiado rapido para mi! I think I could have limped through it after a couple of "más despacio, por favor" though. Love the sense of humor. I'll definitely be subscribing as a supplement to what I'm already doing. Hell, I've already learned after all this time that 'adios' connotates a final goodbye. How did no one ever tell me this?!

I have stumbled through ordering food in Spanish. I used to stop at every taco truck, and frequently go to ramatas. I'd order: Dos tackos carne asada con todals, por favor, and the counter person would switch to English. Her English was better than my Spanish. This bothered me because I wouldn't get an oppertunity to praceise Spanish. But I kept after it. Finding oppertunities to switch to Spanish, with ramata venders and anyone I"d corner. I went outside of my commmunity and went to the Mexican side of town Rodeos, taverns, lots of places. Then years later, I'd stop at this convience store, where the cashier got the idea, that I was Mexican. Shed count out the change in Spanish and I'd say gracais. This went on for several weeks, Then one time she heard me speaking Eglish and she was shocked! It was funny! You'd have to be there to see the look on her face.
