If your reading standards at a jazz jam and can’t write out solos, what’s a good way to get around the chord changes for a first read thru?

Keep it simple! Stick to the chord tones and try to see the function of each chord (whether it's a tonic, dominant, passing chord etc). Complexity will come but only after you have that basis :)

Interesting take on the tunes changes. Why Bb major? Isn't this in G minor throughout?

Well it starts in Bb Major, then moves to the relative minor, G.
