Great content for new/returning vegans. A couple additions... Miso paste also helps with that umami flavor and for someone transitioning, my daughter swears by Follow Your Heart Mozzarella brick cheese. Good luck to everyone beginning this journey!

So many great tips in this video! I used to eat eggs every day for breakfast and thought I'd never be able to give them up, but it was actually so easy. The smell of black salt puts me off but I actually love the taste! So good in tofu egg salad and scrambles!

I gave up sugar back in November for health reasons....including gluten products. I have now lost 30 pounds and my joints are much happier. Being a vegan made easier since I already have a dietary discipline. So be ready for the pounds to fall off without much effort. 😉

I got over my craving for cheese by making myself hate cheese... I watched the horrible videos of what happens in the dairy industry over and over... and then everytime I wanted to eat something that had cheese, I would imagine that it was covered in something really nasty... Or I would just remind myself of those videos... I have not ate cheese or had a craving for cheese in 3 years now.

I was never a big fan of meat, since I was a kid, but I was crazy about cheese. I ate lots of it until I went vegan cold turkey, after some time, it wasn’t even that long, I stopped craving it, just as the time went by. The hardest wasn’t cheese itself, but all the recipes that had cheese in it, all my favorites, even my favorite cake. This is my third vegan year. Today I actually started a list of foods I missed and for now all I have in it is vanilla ice cream (I live in a small town, in a country where veganism isn’t that popular, sadly), and my favorite cake.

@@sapphichorrors Yes I agree but I in reflecting about it I had decided that I was eating cheese because it helped me to not over eat on other things I might crave. I thought it was more satisfying. The vegan cheese does have a funny taste I feel now it is best just to make the vegan cheese myself and if I cannot do it then just do not eat it!

Thank you so much for making this! Quick suggestion for missing milk chocolate, I eat vegan dark chocolate with fresh cashews or I make chocolate milk with cashew milk. That satisfies the craving quite a bit especially right before or during those cravings we women have monthly. The cashew makes up for the creaminess the milk provided.

What helped me with my sugar cravings was a 10-day potato Mary's mini challenge (McDougall). I struggled through days 1 and 2 and then it became easy AF. Didn't need any sugar anymore, fruit tasted almost too sweet 😁 so whenever I feel like I am not eating ok, I do this challenge and it works like magic 😉

I agree. Cravings are really linked to something missing (water as Jenné said) but they also come up when we have certain habits or are tired, bored, stressed and unprepared (no yummy but healthy food in the house). I find the book 'Shrink yourself' about emotional eating to be very good. Dr Doug Lisle says it takes about 3 days to break a bad habit. The more one resists and does something else instead, the more it's possible to reprogram the body.

I used to crave salty taste sooo much. I only seemed to get the salty flavour when I ate meat. I didn't even want to eat that much meat. I would eat only meat for days straight. Found out it was because I was severely dehydrated. Problem was, I had a real problem with picking up the water bottle. So, for anyone struggling with that those are my tips: - try finding a nice, fruity tea (I liked berry and herb mixed teas). Since they are slightly sweet naturally try drinking them with no sweetener. - soups, soups, soups! During that phase, eating soup became a good way to get some extra water in me. I used to make a tomato soup and make it so it's a little bit more on the watery side. Such a love -bitter lemonade. Try having a bitter lemonade with lots of ice cubes. They gradually melt and make it more diluted, making it easier to drink. At some point there is no lemonade left and your just drinking water from the ice cubes. -water EVERYWHERE. I put water cups or bottles on my desk, on my nightstand, in front of my mirror, next to the couch, tou name it! In sight in mind. All of those tips have made me go from drinking something like 100-200 ml a DAY to around 800 now, 4 months after I started. My goal is 1500 ml, so I still have some way to go. I really hope this helps someone out there. You got this!

Hi, I’m a very new Vegan, and I’m not missing anything so far, I gave cheese up years ago along with crisps, or as you call them chips I believe. I’m English, but the best thing for me so far are smoothies, frozen fruit a banana or two and a small amount of water. I drink tea but can’t bare the taste of the non dairy so I drink expensive teas as there are real pieces of fruit and berries and like you said lots of water. Thank you for your really helpful messages. X Ros

💌 So true!!🍒 I was thinking about this on President's Day and my cherry pie craving, it made me meditate about how cravings are involved with emotions esp. how our Moms did certain things with foods that our love is tied in with the food but we live and learn! I am grateful I learned to be vegan. I also controlled cravings with a 1/2 of a cup of pure Aloe Vera juice or gel drink before meals and it really works to help get control of cravings!💕

I have always found that when you have a specific craving for some kind of meat, one of the worst things to do is seek out the vegan version of that thing. Because it won't be the same, and you may be unsatisfied and disappointed. You're better off finding something different that has the same quality you are wanting. Maybe you want a salty fast food burger. Try vegan nachos instead. A lot of people just giving up meat, or some meat-eaters try these substitutes and say it'll never compare. Not really what this video is about, but I've been thinking about that for a while.

As someone who is clean and addicted to food, cigarettes, and weed - I get uncomfortable in my chair when ever someone says "oh don't worry, your addiction will go away!" no. This is not how it works. Addictions do not go away. They are always there. You do not vanish your addiction, you only learn how to live with it. Just because I am clea, does not mean I am not an addict anymore or that my addiction does not exist anymore. I am just a clean addict and not an active addict. So please do not use the term "your addiction goes away" because it relly doesn't. You can learn how to live with it, which is a differant story, but it never fully goes away.

Could you be sodium deficient? I found out that we as Americans drink a lot more water than what is needed, and flush out minerals and vitamins. I see it as the body giving signals as to what it needs. I started to monitor my cravings and adjusted my diet to add foods that have more of the minerals, and vitamins that helps to balance my body, also limit my water consumption to when I actually feel thirsty.

How do you get over seafood cravings? I've been vegan for about 3 years, but still have strong cravings for seafood.

I'm addicted to popcorn(my #1 favorite snack). I find it hard to not eat the whole pot. I don't enjoy store bought popped popcorn because of the amount of salt, nor do I like the butter flavor. Maybe once for the year I'd buy a cheddar flavor, but I prefer popping my own and have it lightly salted. I do think I'm addicted to crunchy foods. I had to research it,because my toast, waffle, cookies etc have to be crunchy. What would you suggest?

Hey, Jenné! Do you have an education in dietetics by any chance? Because over the years I've noticed how accurate and factual your food facts are and I've always appreciated that (:

Hi..great info! In my attempts to eat a vegan diet I noticed more recently that I was consuming alot of sodium. I was buying the packaged vegan crumbles and a few other things to add to meals. Even the sauce was high in sodium. So is that normal..that as a vegan your salt intake increases? If not what suggestions or advice can you give me

Excellent - how to ignore your body's cravings and develop a restrictive relationship with food. 🤯😬

Nothing about what she eats looks restrictive. Some people have negative reactions to things like sugar, dairy, caffeine and want to eat differently. That’s okay. If you’re not in a place mentally to understand that then you don’t have to project it onto others.

Not a craving related to switching to vegan... but any suggestions/help with cravings for fat like nuts, seeds, Peanut butter (oh lord), tahini... I crave those so so much and if I binge it's typically on those kinds of foods...
