Thanks a loot, got me some hours to get 1120mV 20%power 2600-2800Mhz, 2280Mhz mem stable for me, vid help me where I should start with my overclock, at 70% GPU usage I hit 200-250W and timespy run goes 363W stable for hours, I did feel that fan on GPU was too slow was fan speed at 50% when temp was 70C and hot spot hit for a second 97C scared me so I am using 70% fan curve at 70C and now avg temp 66C in timespy run for 20 loop. When I rise power target I feel that 1120mV jump to 1200mV some times to make it stable but works great.

For those of us looking at the 6950XT but concerned about power draw can you discuss how much you can limit the power consumption whilst maintaining stability and relatively decent performance. As a virgin OC'er my 1st OC is going to be a UC in fact. I want to sacrifice some performance in favour of power efficiency; I thihk many people may look at the 6950XT price and think similarly. Thanks.

You should test your overclocks with Port Royal, you will find that lower clocks sometimes will give you better performance. For example I can overclock my 6900 XT with core clock set at 2550Mhz-2650MHz but, when I reduce the clocks to 2450Mhz-2550Mhz with voltage set at 1050mV, I get much better performance. Could be the reason why (from your graphs) your overclocks without SAM enabled is not giving any extra performance. You actually got less performance in Assassins Creed as per your graphs.
@AncientGameplays

I believe it is due to the game and drivers, as most games did benefit from OC/UV. From my experience it improves with time

@@shawndeo4399 - This is absolutely true. At a certain point, AMD just ignores what you set anyways so going higher that that point just means less performance as it goes into what is effectively 'safe mode', using more voltage, maxing power draw, and lowering consistent clocks.

OMG Thanks so much for this guide! I was getting Apex Legends crashes after 20 to 30 minutes of playing and streaming it. It was very frustrating to lose the current gameplay and unexpectedly stopping the stream. I had Apex running on highest settings in 4k HDR with my custom overclocks for my Asus TUF 6900 XT + Ryzen 5950X. Thess custom overclocks worked on other games but failing on Apex. I needed custom overclocks as I stream and play on the same PC. Also, I'm doing resolution scaling/conversions and recording/instant-replays in Streamlabs at the same time, and also using Radeon Super Resolution to use the game in 1440p and scale it to 4k. Hi, well done tutorial video. Thank you :) I'm new to AMD gaming gear. Just got 6900 XT Asrock phantom gaming. Initially didn't want to overclock it but after i saw your video - tried OC/UV. Now it runs on: 2400-2500 MHz 1150mV VRAM 2110MHz (with default synchronization) Power limit maxed out. SAM enabled. Nice performance uplift in Vermintide 2 (only game I tested for hours now), temps in check. No crashes so far, so I believed it's pretty stable. Same settings, newer game: Darktide.: some glitches /artifacts(?) started to appear. Tiny flickering pointed-down-triangles around light sources; some other weird geometric light effects on environment textures. The longer I played the more it was intensified. I noticed VRAM clock's were constantly around 2100Mhz (but overall GPU usage rarely peaked around 98%. More often it was lower.) I'm fairly new to overclocking - Is it possible that VRAM clock alone was responsible for this?

I thought it was the voltage setting but when i undervolt it just crashes it dont turn green screen. I have an asus tuf rx6950xt

I m using 6900XT Toxic air. If i use auto OC or Rage mode, it mostly averages at 2500Mhz. After trying out 10 iterations of clocks n voltage in cyberpunk benchmark. I started with your clock n voltage values and iterated upon them My settings are 2500mhz min, 2750mhz max voltage 1140mV or 1150mV Mem clock at 2150Mhz(max limit) and fast timings power limit +15%(maximum allowed on Radeon software) I was able to get game clock of 2690Mhz in Cyberpunk 2077 benchmark. Going to 2800Mhz game will simply crash. Will post more updates soon. But its result in fps is not that big , compared to the heat its putting out probably 10fps more in Raster mode and 5fps more in RT mode. Edit : Turned of fast timings, because it was giving stutters in gameplay, but them mem oc still works and core OC at 2680Mhz

That's a really good guide ! ⭐ To try the stability of the OC/UV what are the best tools/games ? There's some like OCCT, Furmark, etc but that's mainly for the GPU (and the driver limits the frequency when it detects them), not the VRam. (OCCT can do that but they say that it doesn't detect errors due to OC very well) Seems to be stable GPU @2649MHZ ; @1,115V ; VRam @2350MHz.

After your tutorial i was able to fine tune it and diablo 4 now runs at 160fps and only 230watts with hotspot temp at 80°c. Keep in mind, i have a hyte y60 case so it was an impressive improvement

@miniweeddeerz1820
@miniweeddeerz1820 Жыл бұрын
Get to the performance level you want by pure underclocking. So don't touch any voltages, just decrease clocks and max the power limit for clock stability. That's guaranteed stability. Then reduce voltages as low as they can go and then it'll work good at lower temps and power.

Undervolting has not helped. Airflow is fine... O11 Dynamic - 3 bottom intake below the GPU, 3 side intake, 3 top exhaust, with a Phantom Spirit 120 SE and my 7800x3d idles mid 40's and games at 65-70. Panels off only changes the temps by 1 degree. Cranking the bottom intake fans that point directly at the GPU to max RPM also only change the temps by 1-2 degrees.

I just got the reference model and I figured out that the core clock speed has a direct impact to the hot spot temperature. Yes, on stock settings my hot spot temperature goes as high as 112! But the GPU temperature will be in the 70’s. I set mine (max) at the AMD rated boost clock of 2,310 with a small stable under volt, a custom fan curve as the stock fan curve is not aggressive enough and power tuning is off. So my hot spot temp. will only peak into the 90’s now.

My Reference 6950 straight from AMD is reaching 117C junction temp in Heaven Benchmark. The GPU sits mid 50s to 60s depending on how I set the fan curve but that Junction temp keeps climbing almost as if its a nuclear reactor and its water cooling system has failed. I even undervolted down to 1067 and in Heaven Benchmark it still reaches 110C junction temp within a few minutes. I assume either the Cooler was installed with some poorly applied thermal paste or the GPU and Heatsink mating surfaces are not flat. I do not like RMAing products because half the time you get a worse product or they send it back no problem found. I feel like lowering the core hundreds of degrees below its factory clocking is nuts! Imagine if you drove a stick shift but if you went over 1500 rpms the engine would overheat but the cars horsepower and torque were rated at 6500rpms. Would you drive around shifting before 1500 rpms or would you consider it defective? I think some of our cards are defective and probably made by a substandard manufacturer with poor quality control. I do not trust them to fix what they already did wrong the first time. I think we are just going to have to delicately take them apart and fix them. Thoughts?

@@_Wake_Up_If_U_Can yupp, kinda sucks having to lower the performance just to keep temps in control. Its unfair if you pay the price of a 6950 and running it like a 6800. I thought about doing the thermal stuff myself but didnt end up going through with it. Although I seen some videos and it seems like its possible just a bit time consuming. I was going to get the 2mm packplate pads as well. The other option I was thinking of was doing the Iceflow 240 VGA cooler from amazon, where people mentioned it took down atleast -20 off temp. I will say that after this experience with reference cards I will not be purchasing from AMD directly. Their customer service is horrible as well, they dont listen to the problem and ask same questions its very frustrating dealing with them. I did get to a point where they were going to RMA for me but wanted me to send the card first, and see how slow the process(2-3 day replies) was going already I decides not to go that route
@_Wake_Up_If_U_Can

I did take it apart. The carbon pad over the core was not centered. It was a little off center. I was unable to easily replace it without damaging the thin carbon pad so I used some spare Thermal Grizzly paste. Temps are still hitting 110C at the junction. I lowered power -10% and made sure memory was set to default and it still slowly climbs to 100C while gaming and 105C in Heaven Benchmark. I decided their factory cooler must be designed to allow their junction temp to run 110C because my setup is best case scenario. I assume the thermal mass and/or the way the heat is dissipated through the heat sink solution must not be capable of pulling the heat out of the center of the core (when you hover over the ? in AMDs adrenaline software for junction temp it says junction is the center of the core) fast enough. I do not like the idea of the junction temp running 110C so I am going to water cool it. EKWB.com already ran out of the all black block I had in my cart so I just swapped to the uglier acrylic looking one that is see through and has RGB (you know, the lights that make everything more powerful and faster and better, add RGB and triple performance /s). Waiting for their tech support to respond to my email to confirm the block for 6900 reference works for the 6950. I kind of wished I had ordered one of the better aftermarket 6950s at this point cause it will have cost less overall, assuming it didn't also suffer from overheating junction temps (that's my non scientific opinion, the amd engineers disagree with me obviously).
