I notice that it is also not easy to quit your job by approaching your manager to give out the resignation letter no matter how many reasons you wanted to quit and feeling very exited to leave your job whether it's a toxic workplace or not.. You begin to think and worry what your manager, supervisors, and co-workers will think of you once you announce your 2 weeks notice.
@multiplecareerspodcast25562 жыл бұрын
Handing in that notice is often an uncomfortable feeling. I felt very agitated about it the first time I did it in my life; But after doing it several times (quitting when I know I had to quit!) it became easy and even a relief. Actually, oftentimes the manager and some co-workers get envious of the person leaving. They know well that that person is likely leaving for something better :)

What would they possibly think of you? Assuming you've been there for a decent amount of time.

The thing I never see talked about is that when you apply to new jobs, you usually have to list your current employer contact info. And if you don't get the job...sometimes many different times in a row with multiple companies, that seems to be an awkward situation if they did in fact contact your employer. In that case they would already know you're looking for a new job. Which might potentially negatively impact how the company treats you, maybe even firing you in some cases once they know what you're up to. In my case it doesn't matter because I have told my boss I need something closer to home. He knows my situation and understands, way too much of a story to get into here. But last year after about 2 dozen applications and 3 interviews with no results I was forced to go back to my old job. I had a seasonal layoff where I took advantage of the free time to look for a new job. But nothing worked out of course, I couldn't even get jobs that pays far less. At 38 years old, getting a job has always proved to be a horrific struggle for me. At least for me it's always been that way.

You can also have a lot of emotions changing jobs especially if you worked at the company for a long time. You can also feel guilty changing jobs, but you have to do what’s best for you.

@@multiplecareerspodcast2556 I’m actually going through it now. I’ve been at my job for a while, and i recently got a job offer with a lot more pay. I have a lot of anxiety because i hope I’m making the right decision.

I have an offer from another company and I have been at my current company for 8 yrs. Its a local job literally within a few miles of my home. Im well paid and the position is on a leadership track. Im also the sole breadwinner for the family and my office location has provided me the opportunity to take part in my kids lives. That being said my current job plays to my strengths yet as I project into the future my roles and responsibilities will move away further from the goals and desires that I am seeking. Also, I have not been learning the things that I want to prioritize in my personal development. This new job checks a lot of boxes for what I am seeking. I know there will be a lot of areas that I will need to learn expeditiously. I feel like this will be a step into the 'wilderness' for me and Im having a healthy amount of performance anxiety. I have confidence in ky capabilities though I feel like I cant afford to fail especially with my family financial structure. Any advice for how to approach the decision making process with this new job offer? Thank you

Very informative video. I have been in. my current job for 18 years and I have come to a point that I really need a change because my of my colleagues have come and gone over the years, and new people keep coming. The problem however is that i am do afraid to my change job due to the fear of unexpected in a new job ie new people, nrw environment and fear of training on new skills.
@multiplecareerspodcast2556 Жыл бұрын
Thank you! Having that fear is very normal. When you break down the task of changing jobs into very small micro-steps, it becomes less intimidating. I hope you'll find a job you'll like better soon! All the best!

You fear new people and yet you have seen a lot of new people come in over the 18 years. Put yourself in their shoes and think. You can also talk to them to understand their point of view.

Sometimes fear has deep roots and will require a psychologist and therapy to help overcome, otherwise you won't be able to eliminate it and it will always hold you back. Even if you change jobs, you might find yourself repeating the same situations over and over again. Helping you overcome fear may even change how you operate a work and get rid of the issues you had with the current work place.

I left my job and have been unemployed for a year now and I thought I would have used my spare time to figure out what career I might want to pursue but I can't even get started. The most I've done is download a bunch of courses in various areas I intend to explore. I have no specific area of interest that I feel passionate about. My only motivation is I know I don't want to go back to my previous/current career. I'm scared that I won't be smart enough to pursue the potential areas I'm looking at and that I'll pursue the wrong thing and end up wasting more time and money and end up feeling unfulfilled again.

I have a job opportunity for the same money. I like my job. I like my boss. I like my owner. But I don't have a retirement plan. I'm 40, I have 5 kids and a wife. I work in air conditioning and don't get dirty. I'm afraid to leave something I like for the unknown.

6:00 mins in and I already feel better. You have been able to break down my feelings that I felt unclear about. I have so much performance anxiety, I have a lot of discomfort anxiety, and lastly I get distressed easily. I’ve never feared doing something when I am acting upon it, it’s usually before. When I need to mediate the situation before I even begin is usually where I always get stuck, and discomfort and fear take over.

I started this podcast channel about a year ago. It was a place for me to explore a new format in which I talk about career issues in a more raw and uncut way. Lately, I've seen much more traction and a growing interest in my episodes here! Nevertheless, I've decided to slowly merge back this podcast into my main channel 'Multiple Careers', and will no longer be uploading on this channel. For more content, please subscribe to my channel here: kzbin.info See you there everyone!☺

Do you think it's a good idea to quit without having another offer in-hand?
@multiplecareerspodcast25562 жыл бұрын
It depends on many things, including: your financial situation (how long will your emergency savings last?), how long will it take, especially in your industry, to find a new job, and what are you planning to do in the mean time (sometimes a break can be useful to upskill, restore your health, spend time with family, or a personal project, etc.). So whether or not it’s a good idea depends on what your intentions and preparations are.

I mean, it can be life threatening when you lose your livelihood. :)

That's true, but changing jobs is not losing your livelihood. Of course there might be a threatening feeling to it during the transitional period.
