Yes! The bike is a cream puff. But needed new grease.

Great video John! I love '70s Schwinns. I've restored a 1973 Schwinn Sports Tourer, a 1987 Schwinn World (Taiwan Giant made) and am currently restoring a 1972 Schwinn Super Sport. You have a great channel!

Gotta love a pristine bike with chrome lugs! The 1st gen Dura-Ace always struck me as being very attractive. Maybe because it was the first high quality parts group that I saw? I admire your courage to get into the area of maintenance best practices, even if you are taking a "to each their own" position. With the question of "how much grease", I think you'll know when it's too much when it starts oozing out at the axle. My last point.. I was noticing how many camera shots you were using for each part of the process. That's a lot! Thanks for working so hard to clearly show what you were doing!

Amazing how loose everything was. Especially the drive side fixed cup. Those are usually a bear to remove. Another beautiful bike John! We like bling!

@@BicycleRestorationMan The original owner of this bike commented years ago on the original video I did on this bike. She only rode it a few times. Then it Sat on a shelf at a bicycle shop for 40 years lol.

Panasonic made some excellent frames - wonder how many different brand-name stickers were applied to them?

$579.95 in 1978 is equal to$2,729 today. I just bought a fork from your friend at Golden Velo. Clean Streak is an aerosol everyone should read the manufacturer's haz-mad
@Hertog_von_Berkshire37 минут бұрын
I ran the calculation for UK inflation and 579.95 would be 4566 today. Of course the values (in Sterling) would be wrong for this product but they indicate the level of inflation we have experienced over here. Your factor of 4.71 in the US, is 7.78 in the UK over the same period.

What are your thoughts of using bees wax on chain ring bolts and other threaded bolts?
@rpersaud5627 сағат бұрын
How often should you break a chain before you need to buy a new one? I have heard some people say that breaking a chain is not good for the life of a chain but then others who break their chain to clean it every season.
@JohnsVintageRoadBikeGarage7 сағат бұрын
Hi, I don't think it hurts when you use a proper chain tool. Plus, you will most likely split the chain in different links so you're not putting wear on the pins. Great Question.

Yeah, many of those mid-range Schwinn's were made from heavy gas pipe, with rudimentary lugs. (What they called "lightweight" ) No Cromo in them. Didn't all Schwinn's with Shimano, use 14mm bolts, or even nuts, on the bottom bracket spindles?
@JohnsVintageRoadBikeGarage7 сағат бұрын
Yes Bill, those early Mid or Low end models were pretty bad!! I think pretty much all were 14mm bolts. You won't see 15mm till you get into the next gen of Dura Ace, Suntour Superbe or Campy.
