@@HeyImKatyusha This guide is very true to heart for Mustang mains. and pretty much everything in this video is true. In a way, mastering the Mustang is almost like a long, long journey, which is ironic. I think a good tip to many people trying to master the mustang is that "Timing is key". So many people ask me why I main the D-30 and why not just use the P-47. The P-51 has no main strength, but it has no defining weakness to exploit. Instead it exploits the weakness of other planes. I won a 1v8 clutch as the last guy on my team. I downed a spitfire in a head-on, energy trapped the C.205, then BnZed his buddy, then killed the third spitfire in their own stupid game: a dogfight. used my energy to bring the dogfight to high altitude and added a *little* bit of pitch input while also climbing slightly to rate around the Spit and trick em into turning into my circle and burn more of their energy. And at the right moment when I see the white trails on their wings and them pointing their nose I sharply turn towards them to stay over their nose and move over their position and at last the spit tumbles from the sky and I stall the Mustang and throw the landing flaps down to pull the nose down and get the kill. When you only have 10-18 minutes of fuel very, very quickly does the P-51D-30 just go complete Ultra-Instinct. Out performing even spitfires. Slowly over time I picked their team apart. They lose hope slowly as they all desperately tried to warn and save each other whenever I was coming but they were always too late or their efforts were always in vain. I caught their Yak-9p off guard. Sneaked up on the A7M that tried to side climb to catch up to my altitude, and deleted them promptly,. Their FW-190D-13 was turn rated to death, and by the time enemy pilot identifies me on the HUD I'm already 2 km away from them moving at 800-900 km/h. and by the time the player even realizes I'm there they are already dead. Not even the Yak-3 could pull it's BS on me.

The trick for that is counting down how fast he could be on you while looking away. Here for example he is 4km away means he would be on me in 30 seconds. This skill improves overtime cause in a situation with more enemies you cant watch them all. The spitfire guide has many examples for that

Been using the P51 for a while now, I think it is so underutilized by guys that just go in to the 1st fight and start dog fighting spitfires at low altitudes. It is so satisfying at the start of the match to go for the bomber, and flank from behind 3 planes in a row. Great vid, gonna test some of the stuff out!

in my expereince of playing with the american air-tree (only bothered with the naval fighters and ground attackers), P-51 players are always the first to perish, bc they dont seem to realize that borderline anything that outclimbs them should be run away from instead of engaged. its basically a guarantee that if they climb, they dont climb enough (sideclimbing is a myth apparently) and then stall out trying to kill someone more than 1km above them, get dove on and die.

Sideclimbing isn’t a good strategy unless you plan on carrying, because your whole team is probably going to die before you can do anything. And if one 109 chooses to stay up as top-cover, then your whole strategy is foiled. I think it’s best to stick close to your teammates and try to cover them. That way hopefully you can have the numbers advantage instead of the altitude advantage.

as a veteran WT player that mains the P-51, I can 100% confirm this. Every time I'm on a team with other Mustangs, its very rare to see any other P-51 aside from me still fighting. The Mustang is not hard to use and is fucking amazing if you actually take the time to learn it

Another tip for the P51 D's if you're trying to outrun someone in a straight line, set your prop pitch to 85% and Rads to 80%. This should give you a slightly higher top speed. Also VERY well made video ! You've earned a Sub!

Yep, 152 more HP, higher MP 72" to 67", like 20kmh on SL faster. Like all P51s it has ugly low BR for that performance because of most players misusing the plane horribly.

Quick note for the d30: It has amazing linear energy retention so horizontal gun passes are more preferred than regular BnZ. Also do not initiate turn fight unless you have absolute advantage in speed. The only con I can think about this plane is that it is atrociously hard to aim its guns. You have to predict further on opponent directions to get good hits. Try spraying from a further distance for the best effect. Enemies that are going to give you are hard time is the k4 bf109. You cannot outifght this fucker just dive away or gun him when he isn't noticing your presence.

I'm a bad pilot but it's frustrating that 80% of my matches I die before I had the chance to do anything. I climb diagonal at the angles you suggest but still end up low enough to where I get bullied by spitfires and yaks and I die either in a quick strafe or after trying to maneuver a lot. If I dive any time I see one I get like 3 planes on my tail and while it looks like I should outrun them with my top speed that almost never happens

The thing about the P-51 in War Thunder is that the game’s meta does not play to the P-51’s strengths (good high-speed maneuverability, very strong dive speed and acceleration, very strong energy retention, very high top speed), but instead to its weaknesses (mediocre low-speed acceleration, poor low to medium-speed maneuverability, mediocre climb rate). Really for the P-51 to be at its most effective, it needs to start with an altitude advantage over its opponents and use boom-and-zoom tactics-like how it did in real life due to its role as a bomber escort. Really what War Thunder needs is more varied battle scenarios, including air spawns for the P-51 and even custom battles where both sides can start the battle at over 10 km altitude (this would also allow things like the implementation of GM-1 nitrous oxide on the Ta 152 and the addition of the Bf 109G-1/G-3/G-5-which have cockpit pressurization and can be equipped with GM-1).

thats almost right. at the start try to climb at 5 or 10 degrees directly into the enemy. you will have the chance to kill attackers before the other planes can help them and if they are there, just dive away and they wont be able to follow

It depends on everything, what's the enemy? How fast is he? How fast are you? Are there other enemies? At what alt is it? Such decisions are purely based on informations you gather before the fight even starts. However if you have the energy advantage there is always some kind of maneuver that kills the enemy the fastest

Lol “your top speed is your friend, if someone is behind you just dive” can’t tell you how often I’ve hit 500mph in a dive thinking I’d get away, then look right behind me and a 109 and take are sitting pretty on my tail and gaining. If you want my advice on the best chance to get a kill with it, stealth belts are a must. They keep messing with the .50s to the point that they either hit super hard or not hard enough. And stealths give you that extra second or two to keep the enemy going on their path before they realize you’re even shooting at them. It’s been getting me better results recently. Might help some of the folk who are struggling .

@@HeyImKatyusha let me tell you a tale. every time ive tried that. nose mounted cannons rip me apart. just like they say for the p51, the stat card and in game performance do NOT match up at all. made it to lvl 100 basically only using the US tree, the D series is ok at BEST. the h5 however is god tier, and the a36 imo is far better than any of the D series simply due to its tier for tier matchup

7:05 you can open your radiator fully cause it has minimal impact on your speed. that means you will never overheat

the propeller pitch is the angle the blades are looking. if you have more % the angle changes, using more engine power because you need to push more air away. if its too high, it creates drag in higher speeds as well, so you have to balance things

@@devonholland8881 the prop pitch is manuel. you can access manuel engine controls yourself, but i would watch a extra video for it. for the playstyle: its not about boom and zoom. its about knowing how to use your energy, so you can get a positional adavantage. if you only climb, you will get outperformed by pretty much every other fighter

500 meters and vertical targeting. You can go higher because if the amount of ammo you have but the best experience I had was 500-600 meters

The j26 is the d20 but transported to Sweden. Performance wise they are identical and the d5 is by far the weakest p51

i get so sick of caryying in this thing. i had one game where i won by killing almost 60 ground targets instead of bothering to follow the laat enemy space climbing. had another once where i got 8 kills because over half my team was bombers and ground attackers

It's a realistic guide. In reality its not possible to reliably win fights with the p51d5 thats why I dont recommend it. Also, speed is your strongest strength. If you dont use it you won't do well in the p51
