They haven't for me. During the holidays I use bubble corner protectors because usps can be a bit more rough with them.

We tried this method today and it nearly doubled the cost of shipping a sign that we would of normally done a custom box for. The size of the package both length and width made it considered an oversized package which increased the cost. It definitely saved us time creating a custom box but I don't know if it's worth the extra cost in shipping a larger sign. We were trying to mail a 33 x 15 sign.

I should follow up with this, if you are going to use this method make sure you find a box that is very close to the product you are trying to ship. If you use a box that's more than you need you will pay for it.

Thanks for the tips. It seems that if you sign or art exceeds certain dimensions, you can't use usps for shipping. How do you ship large signs, like a 3ft x 4ft sign? I tried on ups and fedx and it was like $200. :/

If you live near a decent bike shop, they'll usually give away or sell bike boxes cheap. I ship a lot so I'm pretty good at cutting down boxes to size and its way more secure. FedEx or UPS usually saves me half (or more) of what shipping does on larger or heavier items with USPS.

linross246 - thanks for the tip!! Our signs don’t get over 5 lbs so we are still cheaper with usps but this is such great advice for heavier signs. Do you mind if we share this info in the next video?

That would be just fine! :) USPS does charge dimensional weight, so with larger signs they can be expensive no matter the weight. I'm talking like a 2' x 4' sign, for example. Then it's definitely worth getting a FedEx or UPS quote. But yeah, for smaller ones USPS is hard to beat.

SaraSmilesandCreates based on 24”x32”x6” and 5 lb (my best guess on the weight) going from Indiana to California, USPS priority shipping would be $70.90, USPS Ground $54.69, USPS Media Mail (I don’t think it qualifies for media mail) $4.83

@@mist4926 It's more like $15-$20. The dimensions are thin when packaged like this - not 6". Also, be sure to use a discounted shipping service to print your labels like Pirate ship. Retail USPS rates are much higher.
