How to Paint a Misty Moody Landscape with Pastels

Join me as I paint an autumn river landscape with mist. I was inspired by a recent camping trip to River Falls at the Gorge in North Georgia. Every morning there was a wonderful moody mist rising from the river. In this demo I transform a vibrant wet underpainting to a quiet moody landscape giving you tips for creating the illusion of mist. Enjoy the demo!

Love your work! Now I just need to learn not to fuss and paint too tight! Just one question though. When painting with water colour I always put masking tape around the borders but it seems this is not done with pastels. Is there a reason for this?

It seems to be a personal choice. I prefer tape hinges which work fine to hold the paper down without using a lot of tape!

How are you attaching the pastel paper to your easel board? That looks handy.

I use artist tape and make hinges.....sticky side up and then tape the tabs down.
