How to Paint a Natural Looking Dinosaur Model

Hello and welcome to Scale Stuff, In this weeks video I show you how to paint you dinosaur, and show you how I go about getting a natural looking finish on my dinosaur models.
In this video I will be painting a swimming Spinosaurus,
This is my first ever attempted at painting a resin 3d printed model and I must say I was impressed with the whole expectance but the clean up is a little different than what I am used to
If you wanted to paint your own resin dinosaur but like me don't have access to a resin printer I got my model from Mikes Menageries on etsy, the packing was really good and the seller kept me in the loop through out so figured would be nice to give them some free PR

Have you considered adding UV paints? Many animals can see in UV light, giving the world around them a different look. As an example research ducks UV vision.

Oh ive seen the UV images of things like bluetits and starlings, its an interesting idea to do on a model. I would be more inclined to paint with it if I had a black light tho, but thats an interesting idea on a different angle for painting dinosaurs

the holes are so the resin can drain out of the model while printing! The model is hollow so liquid resin would get trapped inside of it if there weren’t drainage holes. Great video!

Thanks for the info! Glad you enjoyed the video, do you think that if you never added the holes that the resin would stay liquid indefinitely?

@@scalestuff1066 Worse, it will slowly offgass and fill the cavity with gas, eventually your model will break open because of the pressure. I also really hope the creator properly cured the inside and cleaned it, otherwise there is still a chance it will break eventually, since you covered up the holes. This can take a very very long time

@@silox250 Ah interesting, with this model tho its still fine over a year on now, (I know the videos not that old but I make these models well in advance) the chap that made it printed it for me then waited and told me that it needed to fully cured and cleaned before he would send it out, so I recon he did it properly

Oh nice! I was looking at doing that, or a mosasaurs next, but think the resting could make a really nice diorama
