We all really know why we truly love or even adore Rembrandt. Yes, it could be for his chiaroscuro... or it could be for his loose brushstrokes and sometimes spontaneous improvisations (that although I am mesmerized by nonetheless). But I think, be it consciously or unconsciously that is not the real reason. We all can boldly vouch for (may it be only unconsciously) that he produced with his hand what lens could only make with light on sensitive film or sensors. He was in away a camera , and I am dead sure that Rembrandt at every stage of his age when he produced a self-portrait, the likeness was dead on! We can be sure to see the real Rembrandt as he really looked from the Golden Age!

professional painter here ill give some tips take or leave. never use white with your blacks leave shadows dark it adds drama and space paint darks thin and lights thick suggest the form rather than describing it always start with your darks and work to your lights, it is easy to lighten a colour but nearly impossible to properly darken it again. 👍 happy painting

I love this course; it's exactly what I've been looking for for years. I wonder; is there anywhere in the world that still teaches fine art techniques like this in person? I would love to learn the techniques historically taught in art academies. I have a lot of experience making art like this but want to improve to do it professionally. All universities I've looked into in the UK and the Netherlands only seem to teach more abstract fine art programmes. Any suggestions at all would be greatly appreciated :) Thank you again for this series!

Just look up traditional fine art classes or classical classes, or just join some course online. I've heard that there are quite a few in Italy, but they can be quite snobby and pricey so yeah..

Hi, I know that at Repin Art Academy at St Petersburg they still teach all those old school fine art techniques in the same way they used to be taught in Europe. That’s the only place I know.

Those tutorials are so bad. I've never seen any "old masters" techniques tutorials accurate actually. All paintings before the 19th century were created with lots of successive layers on top of DRIED layers. The only white available was lead, a fast drying and slightly translucent color which made blending easier and natural. But one thing is certain, painters, even though they used different techniques from the renaissance to the baroque would never blend wet layers of paint together, or do direct alla prima paintings, like what is taught in modern realism academies. I wish true classical venetian, italian and flemish painting techniques was still taught somewhere.
@tanyamattiss4 жыл бұрын
They are, in many books or the internet. Also there are still old master schools in italy and russia (and propably many other countries). If you want to see modern painters working like the old masters, I recomend you to look up robertoferri_italianpainter (genius), adammillerart or ania_tomicka on instagram or their websites. But there are also genius painters who are not following the old masters technique, but their own. Nothing is just black and white ;)

How to paint like Rembrandt : find a genie and ask for the same talent . You don't need any specific material or techniques afterwards . Some dirt as paint and your fingers as brush would suffice.

So, if Rembrandt and any other old master had painted like this, you could buy Rembrandt at the flea market today for a few dollars. Dear painters here on KZbin: Do you really have no respect for anything or anyone anymore? Many amateur artists give instructions on how to paint a Carravagio, a Rembrandt, a Van Eyck, a Bouguereau, a...a.... But all is not even a hint of what is touted in the titles. An arrogant and pretentious new breed of smart alecks with no real knowledge, want to give here the impression of how the old masters painted. And the stupid viewers, who have never seen a Rembrandt etc. in "real" find this also still great. This is a dumbing down without borders! I am simply still speechless!
