How to paint a stormy sky with Oil Sticks

Let's regard this as a "figurative abstract" painting. 44:06 YM Salanson starts with a brush and thinner to blend-wash the painting. All the steps are completely applicable to oil pastels, too. The two materials are similar, but different enough to have different "painting process expereince" with them. And eventually, the major significant difference is that an oil stick painting after a week will become dry and after a couple of months totally dry ready for varnish. Oil pastels should be sprayed with fixatives/hairspray to make it feel dry. You are not supposed to spray an oil stick painting, so oil stick is really for the relaxed people, not in a rush to complete a painting. OIl pastel can be used in sketchbooks easily with the help of fixatives, oil sticks, not really because (1) the paper has to be gessoed/prepared to handle linseed oil (2) the severaly days - weeks of drying time.

At 49:10 YM Salanson starts adding highlights with a white oil sticks on the still wet first layer underpainting. This could be done a lot easier with white tube oil paint. A second layer with the oil sticks works best when you wait a couple of days to let the underpainting dry enough.

Très intéressant! Malgré que j’adore mes 120 Sennelier commander en ligne tout récemment! Je crois que je vais utiliser l’acrylique pour des peintures picturales prévus et réaliste pour ensuite terminé aux pastel à l’huile! Mais c’est un médium intéressant pour ceux qui adore le style impressionniste ou abstrait! Merci pour cette démonstration que j’ai d’ailleurs regarder avec chien sur mon épaule. Je suis très curieuse de ce nouveau matériel quand on aime le pastel et aussi la peinture à l huile c est très tentant ..y a t il des coffrets,?et comment les conserve t on après avoir enlevé la protection ils ne se dessèchent pas ?il faut remettre un papier cellophane?’j adore vos vidéo et je n ai pas encore pu assister en direct à votre live mais j espère le faire .Merci Yves Marie

Quelle est la différence avec les pastels a l'huile ?

La diff c'est que les pastels a l'huile ne sechent pas, il faut utiliser un fixatif après et même ça ne rendre pas permanent le résultat. Les bâtons huiles son comme la peinture a l'huile que nous déjà connaissons et ils sechents de façon permanent, ils peuvent être aussi dillués avec theberentine ou un autre solvant.
