You can now buy the exact same brushes that I use in my videos in my Etsy store! www.etsy.com/u...
The Painted Fern is - rather confusingly - a species of fern! It really lends itself to watercolour because of the natural colour blends that occur between the stem and the leaves.
If you've enjoyed this video and would like to support me further take a look at my Patreon page at bit.ly/3briO5P to see what we've got to offer.
In this episode, we will be working with dilute, wet colour and blending them together whilst making sure we don't stick our hand in wet paint!
I'd love to hear your suggestions for things you would like to learn how to paint in the comments below.
Don't forget to like and subscribe as well as visiting my website de Winton Paper co (bit.ly/2ZgRlj8) for watercolour kits, worksheets and my watercolour book 'New Botanical Painting'(bit.ly/3dWBsD3). You can find plenty more gorgeous watercolour illustrations on my Instagram too.

Thanks George, I like to paint and talk in real time as I think the soothing quality of watercolour is half the reason why I enjoy it so much!

Ha, tried, but mine aren't so fern like. Will have to try again, lol. I thought things were going well, but then just realized not so much.

Thanks very much for this lovely demo. I found it quite a tricky technique to master as the brushes are so tiny. Producing a very wet but fine line takes practice. I had to work in smaller sections and drop in more dark colour where it wasn't flowing well. I have a range of small brushes and found some worked better than others. The longer the 'bristles' the more paint they hold to produce wet lines although not as long as a rigger as these are more difficult to control.

Thank you Harriet! So so beautiful! You must have the patience of a saint! When I first started painting one year ago I had the impression that painting went faster than it really does but I too am learning patience! Thank you for being such a great roll model!!💕

When I don't want to reach over my work while painting I just turn the page around. We can usually paint upside down or sideways with no trouble. I teach this to all my art students and it has been a real eye-opener to many. I am new to watercolor and am enjoying following your wonderful lessons. You really are a wonderful instructor, Thank you.

I started this project this morning and it's not as easy as you make it look! I tried a few different brushes before I was happy. I'm going to sketch out the full frond and then have another go, now that I know what I need to do. It was very relaxing though! Thank you 🥰

Ferns are so beautiful and this is a great tutorial thank you! I hope you don’t mind a little bit of feedback, I found it easier to see the details when you were working on the right hand side of the fern as it’s closer to the camera. Really enjoying watching all your tutorials ta xx

I'm really loving these videos and you are really a fantastic teacher. Is it possible to add a light on your right hand side for future videos? The light (from a window?) on the left leaves a shadow from your hand over what you're painting so it's difficult to see at times!

Yes this is something we are going to address, the light changed quite dramatically during the filming of this video so we were caught out but we have already ordered some lighting for next week's filming. Thanks so much for your comment.
