Royal & Langnickel Gouache Paint

Today the clouds were so beautiful that I had the urge to draw them. I recently got new gouache paints and wanted to try them out. I searched KZbin for a general idea and this video pops up. I'm mesmerized and inspired! Subscribed with good reason.

Thank you, I come from Watercolor so this was a bit difficult for me to get the hand of. Even though my most recent sky looks very pretty it is somewhat flat and I don’t like that. I want dynamic shapes and I want value in my clouds but I needed a little help.

I only have alizaren crimson, burnt sienna, ultramarine blue, and vibrant blue from my guoache set. Can this effect still be achieved?

Yes it can! You will just need some white to lighten your color mixes. All the colors are just suggestions (plus the colors in the sky are constantly changing so it’s fun to mix up what you use!) 😊

I'm curious. If you do not have a gouache color, say, Prussian gouache, can you mix watercolor with the base mix to get the hue you want? Not owning but the basic triad of gouache, I've tried mixing white with my tube watercolor. Is that often done?

Did you end up mixing it with your tube watercolors? I haven't tried that myself, but I am sure you could try it! The consistency might be a little different. Gouache is very similar to watercolor, but it has more pigment and is less finely ground (making it more opaque and matte, like acrylic paint).

wow! what type of watercolor sketchbook are you using? and where did you get it?

Faith Olivia I picked this sketchbook up at a second hand shop and they took the labels off so I’m not sure what it is called! I’m so sorry!!! I ended up switching to a Strathmore Mixed Media sketchbook because the sketchbook I used in this video tends to fray when I use lots of paint. I would recommend Strathmore if you’re looking for something for watercolors/gouache 😊
