My dogs names are Jack and Simon. They too love watching your videos. I’ve very new to the hobby, only 3 intercessors in. I’ve probably spent more time watching your videos than actually painting. After painting my first 3 models in the classic ultramarine scheme I’ve decided to only paint 5 of my intercessors in the ultramarine scheme. Saving the other 5 along with a starter set, as I am going to instead paint them in this dark angels scheme instead; absolutely love it. I totally agree with you that GW idea of green for the dark angels is way too bright. It's not grim or mysterious It's like, in your face. Love the color and style you used. Been following 40k for about 2 years now, but finally with the new 10th edition launch box i feel i can get into the hobby myself. I'll definitely be using this paint style. Thanks for the video!

New to the channel. Absolutely loving the style. Two things stand out. Your ability to paint shadow / ambient occlusion gives the mini the appropriate visual weightiness for a towering figure as it would be lit in real scale. Second, that blue-green has the most delicious sea foam chalkiness - completely sold on that over the traditional GW and I will be painting my army this way. Cheers!

that is absolutely bang on mate, looks amazing! Totally agree about the typical Dark Angels green you see everywhere aswell, its too cartoony, too overly saturated, they're supposed to be DARK Angels....moody, mysterious, secretive and lurking in the shadows.... not holding hands with Kermit the frog. Ive found that a little bit of Temple Guard Blue in the layer mix has looked really good in the past, gives the slightest hint of blue, adds a bit of interest. Awesome work. subbed!

Nice painting scheme, you have your own style and it works out good. Your grimdark has more "realistic" touch than others i saw, like if space-marine armors were used in combat they would indeed look like that. Maybe have you been doing some military model painting also and you kept the feeling ? Anyway kuddos! Now I am really curious to see how you would do the Lion, because I guess we will all be asking ourselves this question. 😉

Yo mate this is a sick take on the Dark Angels! I'm jumpin on that Lion hype wagon but I've been reluctant to get started as a lot of DA look very samey. I also don't like the bright edge highlighted look but in a lot of cases when people try to avoid it with DA they can lose a load of depth and detail in the green murkiness (hope that makes sense) lol. Your take on that more 'ethereal' green approach is absolutely unreal and avoids that murky finish. Definitely gonna be tryin it for myself and passing this video on to my mates. With a more dark/black green edge highlight. With this I just wanted to get rid of that horrid typical bright neon green edge highlight haha. I always think there’s a fine line with DA if you go too green, they can often look like salamanders 😂🙈😞. Again thanks for the comment bro. Hope to speak again soon!

They can look very Salamandery, and they're not nearly nice enough guys to be mistaken for them 😂 I much prefer the detail and distinction in a miniature to come from the darker recesses the way you've demonstrated here, with very minimal and subtle edge highlighting or dry brushing 🤙

I tried doing this with a citadel agrax earthshade wash but it gave it a glossy/shiny effect instead of a matt grime finish. Would an enamel wash stop this from happening? Really like your videos, they are giving me so much inspiration!

Pretty late comment so I hope you still reply, but every grimdark painting video I see uses an airbrush. Is that an absolute must or are there alternatives to make it look as good with the zenithal method?
