I'm so glad Jamie asked this question as I thought everyone who uses watercolour knew and I didn't want to appear stupid. Thank you for explaining in such detail which makes it so easy to remember when it is logically explained. I've been struggling to paint a cats face with more interest by painting wet on wet to suggest hair but could't quite right.

I’m really interested in tips to paint bigger pieces… it’s not so simple as just getting a bigger piece of paper it seems and as your are Queen of the larger format, I couldn’t think of a better person to ask!

Very helpful! Do you make notes on a sketch ahead of time where you will have the hard and soft edges?

I usually identify areas which need to be soft and hard on a thumbnail sketch. Things can develop as they go along, especially if I use a spray bottle. It is not that accurate.
