How to Paint Fireworks Over a Lake

VIDEO DESCRIPTION
This tutorial will take you through easy to follow, step-by-step instructions on how to paint a bright reflective landscape with bright colors, explosive fireworks and bold contrast, so let's get painting and let's get sipping!

MATERIALS:
Canvas: 16x20 stretched primed canvas
Brushes: 1 inch flat bristle, bristle fan brush, #6 round
Acrylic Paint: titanium white, deep yellow, cobalt blue, fluorescent pink, fluorescent violet, fluorescent green, fire red, mars black
Other: palette, cup of water for washing brushes, paper towel for drying brushes
STEPS:
1. 1 inch bristle brush - Paint entire canvas with black
2. #6 round brush - Paint horizon and cityscape with red, yellow and white
3. 1 inch bristle brush - Paint glow under fireworks and reflection with yellow, blue, purple, green, red
4. Fan brush - Paint highlights on fireworks and reflections with white, yellow, blue, purple, green, red
5. #6 round brush - Signature with any color

This painting was fun and a challenge. Since I did not have the flourescent colors, I "improvised" by adding a touch of titanium white to the colors, which worked ok, except for the violet. I enjoy doing your paintings as they are fast and I can remember what you show better than some of the 1 1/2 + demos. Thank you for sharing these painting techniques. PS: One problem I've run into in the past with having a drink nearby is that I sometimes have the tendency to dip my brush into my drink....instead of the glass of water. LOL

Not enough instructions on how to use the fan brush for the fireworks. Mine look like palm trees. We don't understand how to make them look like fireworks.

How long do you have to allow it to dry after you make the colored circles? Michelle, I loved the video. Although I wish you had given one example of a sparkle. I’m a beginner so I need all the help I can get😂

Hi Barbara, thanks for watching. This is an oldie and I've done a recent updated fireworks painting you might enjoy. Acrylic paint doesn't take long to dry at all, a few minutes or a quite blow dry ought to do it. Have fun!

Horizons? I use fifths. In picture framing I learned 2 fifths was the perfect hanging point, for example
