Painting hair on a mini is one of the rare things in miniature painting that is very hard to fake. Miniature painting generally has a lot of workarounds, 'cheats' or tricks to get the desired result while bypassing a lot of the hassle. But for hair, hacking your way to victory is more of a challenge. You really just have to put the work in. But it doesn't have to be hard work. You can still use simple painting techniques to reach your desired goal. I hope you find this miniature painting tutorial useful and it helps you to level up your hair painting skills.

Thank You. Another brilliant easy to follow video; that allows us mediocre painters, to gradually increase the skill level of certain painting styles, one at a time. Your tutorials have helped me overcome the resistance to trying new techniques. After 35 years of just layer, wash and dry brush. I now use a wet palette and have started blending, glazing and stippling. As such, I enjoy my hobby again! Keep up the great vids in 2022.

I think i made a mistake on how I learned things. Im doing blending and glazing already on my 2nd set of minis. But havent really learned layering 🤣 or at least havent tried it correctly.

very brilliant, this is a new way to paint some alternative hair's colours, expecially if you're doing an ultramodern/sci-fi figure (f.e. an Infinity's one). After all it's possible changing the colours to make a different shade.

Ahh, the ✨Kujo Sparkle✨™. The best way to finish off gorgeous hair. If you were going for a darker blue/black hair would you still suggest starting off with a warm base color?
@KujoPainting
@KujoPainting 2 жыл бұрын
Ha thanks. It depends. For black I'd start with black and highlight up with some blue greys then I might come back in at the end to add some subtle warm accents into the shadows. Dark blue I'd do similar to what I've done in the video but use a much less intense blue.

Beautiful results! Thank you for sharing the technique. When you mention that we should make sure that each layer is dry before applying various glaze layers, how long do you typically wait before it's dry?
@Hope4sun

Im usually under a lot of time pressure as don’t get long to paint, so run a travel hair dryer over it and job done 👍
@KujoPainting
@KujoPainting 2 жыл бұрын
Usually I work my way around an area and by the time I get back to where I started it's dry again but like Andrew said, a quick blast of a hairdryer will ensure you don't have any down time from waiting.

Beautiful stuff again Kujo! What size brush are you using here, and how big is the model roughly? I get the impression that you're using a fairly large brush for the hair here
@KujoPainting
@KujoPainting 2 жыл бұрын
Oh, it's a number 1, the model is particularly small. About 25mm base size. Think the face is about 2mm from chin to forehead to give an idea of scale.

What a wonderful video, many thanks. I've been struggling with a centre piece models hair I have been working on. I'm trying to do black hair, so it will inherently be entirely desaturated. Do you think there's much of a change to the general principle to apply when using virtually greyscale paints, or would you think using a subtle tone of browns in there should help keep more interest?
@KujoPainting
@KujoPainting 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks mate, glad you liked it. For black hair I'd recommend mixing a bright blue into your black creating a dark blue grey. Use that as your initial highlight layer and start mixing in a white or off white into that grey to get your highlights.

Looks amazing but i do have one question that came to me whilst watching, why don't we paint on eyebrows ? in all the 30+ years of painting minis I've never known anyone to paint on eyebrows :/
@KujoPainting

Sometimes I do, sometimes I don't. These minis are incredibly small so it's actually difficult to see them in person. But you can do it if you want.
