How to paint Kill Team: Elucidian Starstriders for Into the Dark!

It’s called brocade, Andy. Decorative gold and silver thread, from the Italian “broccato”, meaning “embossed cloth”.

Oh thank you. So if I was looking at it would it appear as gold in colour or would it look golden? Like should I have painted it with gold paints?

@@MediocreHobbies Brocade can be any colour, really, but I think you’re fine representing it with a nice bright yellow. Great paint scheme, btw! The best real-world examples of gold brocade are the Royal Horseguard uniforms and Victorian naval uniforms (probably the inspiration for the Starstriders!). I think that they’re bound in gold lace.

The edging on uniforms is called piping, at least in the US military, and on dress uniforms can help identify areas of specialties (eg in the army, infantry vs armor). The decorative sections on fabric is brocade as another poster mentioned and whilst civilian brocade can be any color, it's usually yellow/goldtone in the military (US military at any rate). I think you did an amazing job on the mini as you always do. I'd love to see you do the bases as shipboard style, though if you wanted a bit of a challenge, buckled plating, as though they were fighting in a damaged ship/station. I'd love to see you doing the sisters novitiates, I know they're technically part of the Chalnath section of Killteam, but I think they're supposed to work anywhere

Great video as always. Defo Necromunda base for this dude. Going forward would love to see a quick and painless way to paint the scenery for the INTO THE DARK box set. I have two box sets due to arrive and want to get the scenery painted as soon as possible. Was thinking black undercoat. Dark brown zenithal highlight with leadbelcher dry brush. But would love to see your take on it.

Great paintjob as always! Personally I would have probably chosen brown boots and a wooden gunstock but that's just me and would have made the cheme a little more "complicated". For the base I think the Zone mortalis bases would work well for a Space Hulk feel. Other option would be custom bases with plasticard tiles, thin gauge wire/ or guitar strings, stitching mesh and so on

I’m always Dubois of wood in 40K. Some books make it seam like a crazy rare material. So I will stick with the metal. Ye solid idea on the bases.

Awesome video, This is what gets me more excited to play Kill Team and Necromunda it feels like customizing your characters is a little more personal rather than making a whole army which is fine just sometimes less is more. Very cool Andy can't wait for more of these videos. If your still thinking of bases why not use Necromunda but have some debri on it like they're exploring a derelict ship or building?

To be honest with you I’m not a fan. I think mainly because basing models is like an extra part of the hobby that I really enjoy. So I’d hate to loss it.

Wonderful paintjob, might be the inspiration for my Krieg Mole Morter team. Although the end result might be too busy did you consider adding your own touches? Like a few additional purity seals and/ or medal(s)? As I personally consider the model very bland in comparison to the rest of voidsmen, and something of a missed opportunity.

Hey sorry to ask but do you know if army speedpaints react to citadel contrast? I have a really nice blue and gold colour I wanted to try following this video but I’ve never mixed them before and have heard stories that the speed paint comes off!?

The trick is to not use white. Try celestra grey. It comes off as white but is much easier to use and get a smooth coat.

Ever time o reload my brush with paint I’m twisting it in my hand so it gets a nice point. Also remember never let paint get up to the metal part of the brush. That’s bad and will cause splitting.
