This is very good. Amazing how quickly you do it. I read an interview with one of his models that said it was depressing to see how after a three hour sitting the canvas looked as though nothing had changed. It seemed for him a slow, painstaking process.

no wonder since most of his works were life size portrait .

I have feelings he did it deliberately to make them suffer for the sake of art. he also suffered being a hard hard worker

It's the very early techniques which Freud throwed away later.It had been looked as drawing more than painting.What made Freud a master was totally different from this video. Anyways, this is a nice video.Then it would be better if been name "how to paint like Freud's earlier works"

oh lala, he exists! there was artist lefthander who is good in painting? cute! enough teasing, but anyway, no authentic artist wants to paint like some other artist, often just the opposite is true, they want build own unique artistic "handwriting", most likely artists look to others artist works as certain kind of dialog with other coleague who is active in same area. Lucian Freud as many others started with sort of naive, not with right anatomy made paintings (that still does not mean that anatomical accuracy is sufficient condition for art to be good art) that I dont see as great but are very highely prized because they are painted just by Lucian Freud, and he improved in time and his paintings become more and more emotionally intensive and deeper. Same development came through Salvator Dali, Czech world wide famous painter Toyen, both started with sort of naive sketches and improved craft part in time and obtain full artistic freedom. With Lucian Freud we have something in common so far, we love same dog breed and figurative motives in art, even though I dont want to paint like he did. If we abstract from fraud use of art for corruption and money laundering which does great damages side quality and reputation to art as a whole, my personal experience is, that the biggest need of giving advices how to paint give envious people who does not know how to draw basic things.

why the copper plate? what difference does it make?
@frankycurry91648 жыл бұрын
hey what greens were you using for this?
@Gringle_7 жыл бұрын
Franky Curry I'm not 100% sure. But, a lot of tubed greens (Sap green, hookers green, etc) are a mixture of other pigments. Often they have pthalocyanine green mixed in, but it is all brand specific for the most part. So, its most likely pthalo green. Chromium oxide green is a pretty nice green as well.

So, what's the advantages of this medium? Oil on copper that is...

Hi, why paint on copper, what are the advantages?
@Nkanyiso_K8 жыл бұрын
cool, helpful but where does one find a copper plate
@Circlelineartschool8 жыл бұрын
Hi, The copper plate I bought was from Great Art, an online art store. They are used by artists for printing and etching, but occasionally for oil painting, as the colour is useful and the oil in the oil paint does not sink into the copper, the picture keeps the oil on the surface. Kind regards, Tom McPherson :)

Freud would never have carried on painting without access to family money. He had no natural talent at all.
@jonathanmitchell44437 жыл бұрын
I understand where you are coming from, but I am not convinced by your argument. 1) Following your passion because you have family money is not a crime. Most people who win the lottery quit their jobs. 2) Very few people are ever born with natural talent. That's no crime either. Talent can be leaned.
@s.p.o.e69607 жыл бұрын
Talent comes from hard work and practice, no one is born an artist. So what he had money, the guy dedicated his life to painting.
@bio-plasmictoad53116 жыл бұрын
Jonathan Mitchell skills are learned, talent is what you have naturally.

I disagree , I believe he had a little talent ! That said if his last name had been Rabinowitz , Finkelstein or Sanchez instead of Freud he may never have made it.
