I've always been frustrated that GW doesn't show exactly how they paint their models. I've come up with my own mix for ork skin that gets pretty close to the skin shown here, but it is amazing to see the person who literally did it show how to do it! You've shown off simple little things that I can use to modify my formula for a better looking end product! (I tend to use more layers, which obviously starts to cloud up details) Thank you so much!

Quick question - when you do the first soft shade, it seems to blend so nicely over the base color without creating any banding or noticeable edges anywhere. How do you do this? I wish I could shade with paints the same way I would shade with a pencil, but it's really difficult to create smooth gradients like you're doing. Are you just using the blend of Base Mix and Ork Flesh Contrast? Or are you mixing in more water or maybe a glaze or something? Also, your paint seems to stay wet on the brush for a long time too. How do you achieve this? My paints seem to last about 20-30 seconds on my brush before they start drying on the brush, forming small little clumps at the end of the brush which forces me to rinse and re-do. Would love some help with this step if you have time!
@InfernalBrush2 жыл бұрын
Hey Jack. The trick is having the paint thin enough but not too much on the brush, you need to keep the paint moving with acrylics. If you notice it creating a line quickly wash the brush with clean water, put the brush in your mouth to remove excess water and then feather out the area before it dries. It helps to have your water pot close. I know some people aren't too comfortable putting the brush into their mouth (even if clean) in that case have a paper towel at hand or even use the side of your thumb to remove the excess water. But the key is being quick. You can also buy mediums that slow the drying time however I don't tend to use them. I hope this helps!
@TheJackFrench2 жыл бұрын
@@InfernalBrush I really appreciate the response and it all makes sense! Also washing the brush and feathering the paint before it dries is a great tip - and I'm guessing it's easier to do this if the paint has already been thinned somewhat. Your painting skills are amazing by the way - it really gives me something to aim for. Thanks for the tutorial!

Hi Im not expecting a reply but I was just wondering, for the teeth, did you just go straight over a black base coat with the zandrindust and leave black in the recesses? Thats what it looked like to me and your teeth look so much more distinct than when ive based the entirety of the teeth zandei dust and then used a shade to get definition. Thanks in advance
@InfernalBrush9 ай бұрын
Hello, yes that's exactly what I would do. Leave a nice thin black shade line in the recesses and then pick out the whole tooth itself with Zandri followed by Ushabti, then add white towards the top of the tooth.

Will you be revisiting orc skin by doing the new old world models? I'd be really excited to see that
@davedogge2280 Жыл бұрын
This will be exciting to try out. I'm a boring old traditionalist with my ork skin i.e. waaargh flesh, biel tan green shade, war boss green and then skarsnik highlights.
@sdws913 жыл бұрын
Is it 100% Skarsnik and Averland sunset as the base coat? I’m trying to copy, but the mix just has a lower contrast and doesn’t seem as strong of a colour. Also, is it that over black or have you done some sort of pre shading? Incredible painting. Very inspiring.
@remarcabull3 жыл бұрын
i had same issue, add more green and shake it well each time until you get the same colour, i found it to be 2:3 ratio averland to skarsnik
@InfernalBrush3 жыл бұрын
It was just over a black primer, no pre shading in this case, although I see no reason why you couldn't do some pre shading with an airbrush. Thanks for watching!
@zurmanskyplayer90583 жыл бұрын
I've been using elysian Green as a base with greats results, try it if you want!
@sdws913 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I got there in the end. I stuck with the mix I made and have great results. I've made a cheat too by after applying the base coat, apply zenithal highlights with an airbrush with ogryn camo, then gloss varnish through an airbrush, then lamhiam medium, the original base coat and ork flesh contrast as a wash. Do all the fleshy bits as per the master sugguest in the video, and then a Matt varnish via airbrushing. Works a treat on 50+ models!

Hi there big fan of the channel. Sorry if this is a really stupid question but I’m fairly new to mini painting. In regards to the soft shade would you say it is more of layer or a glaze in terms of the amount of paint on your brush and the consistency? Many thanks for all the great vids

do you think this would a be a suitable recipe for doing Gobbo skin as well, or is it too light? I'm starting a mechanized Ork army and a Gloomspite Gitz army soon, so really trying to do all the research I can on Greenskin. I've not done either before, and it's something I really want to get into. I couldn't decide between the two, so a vehicle focussed 40k army and a Squigg focussed AoS it is (also I have always wanted to do some Night Gobbos, and do some really cool cave-bases for them) I guess if I am going to have both 40k Orks and AoS Cave Gobbos, then I'm going to want them to look different. Do you by any chance have any Goblin recipes on here, too?
