How to Paint Plastic Rifle Mags

I'm not being fancy but I have a couple of magazines with round limiters to make them legal for hunting. I'm spray-painting the bottoms fluorescent orange to make sure I know which ones are good for hunting.

@@RangeDay If they barge into my forest then I definitely will, but hopefully they won't! I have an AR10 as an all-purpose rifle and hunting will be mainly white tails. 223 is not legal for deer in my state, so an AR15 was not an option.

Can you double-check the colors you use, I think there's no Rustoleum Camo color, Camoflage is the paint type. Thx in advance

I’m doing mine. I’m trying to make the raised parts stay black and the sunken bits ODG. It’s taking me forever trimming the tape, any tips?

That sounds pretty awesome. Unfortunately I can’t think of a way to do that without painters tape. I can only imagine how long that takes 😂 Hope it turns out well for you!

I’m not sure why people insist on taping the top of mags to paint them. Even if the paint wears off some, it’s highly unlikely to create any issues.

Very good point. Some people use the followers for different calibers if the mags look similar and are for different calibers. 5.56 and 300 BLK come to mind for us. Thanks for the comment 😎

Because you don't want paint in the internals of your rifle because that may jam your mag release.

On my Sig the paint really makes it hard to inset and remove the mag. YMMV.

I know this is a year old comment but for those who read replies: Painting the whole magazine works for some mags such as pmags and will only give you minimal resistance on insertion for the first few times but other mags such as MFT will give significant resistance when trying to insert regardless of how much you try to wear it down and so for those I would avoid spraying the whole thing. Always try a single mag and if you face troubles GOO OFF sells a spray made for removing spray paint off plastics and other materials that works great without damage ( In my experience ). Always test and never run with what is spoken.

I actually just walked into Wal-Mart and looked for that size of mesh. It may have even been a ball bag, but I’m pretty sure I got it in the laundry aisle.
