can I also paint the plastic trim in the original car color as a base coat and then a transparent coat with your prepping proces?
@classiccarmaintenanceАй бұрын
Yes, you can use our prepping process for any color or paint. However, if you want a specific color which is not available in paint for plastic surfaces, you first need to apply a separate plastic primer otherwise your paint won’t stick properly.

Is this worth doing or should i replace with new trim on a 98 gen 3 4 runner?
@classiccarmaintenance3 ай бұрын
Unless we really have to, we don’t like to replace parts and always try to repair them. With the method shown in this video, you can easily extend your plastic trims’ life for a long time, and at a much lower cost than buying new parts. So in our eyes it’s definetely worth doing!

I'm wondering if would we be able to still use some type of trim dressing after using trim paint?
@classiccarmaintenance5 ай бұрын
No, you won't be needing trim dressing anymore. Because the plastic is now completely covered with a layer of paint, the plastic trim dressing won't work as it is formulated to rejuvinate bare plastic car trim. You should treat and maintain the new finish as matte paint. This means: no polishing, only gentle cleaning using a soft mitt and towel.

did you apply clear coat on the top?
@classiccarmaintenance4 ай бұрын
In this video, we didn't apply a clear coat on top. We used a paint-and-primer-in-one, which simplifies the process and gives a durable finish without the need for a separate clear coat. It's an effective solution to keep things simple while still achieving great results. Thanks for watching!

Use a special plastic primer adhesive promotor, if you dont theres a very very big chance it comes flaking loose in a few months time…
@classiccarmaintenance7 ай бұрын
When using regular paint, you're right about needing a special plastic primer to prevent flaking. For this method however, we opted for an all-in-one plastic paint and primer, which saves time and effort. It's a quick, effective solution we've had great success with! Thanks for sharing your expertise!

can’t even say what sandpaper useless video
@classiccarmaintenance2 ай бұрын
As shown in the product presentation in the beginning of the video, we used 320 grit sandpaper. However, it doesn’t really matter if you use 320, 400 or 600 grit sandpaper. Just remember that the higher the grit, the longer the sanding process will take. It’s important to check the result when you’re done sanding. Depending on the surface you’re sanding and the scratches the medium grit sandpaper has left, you can finish with a fine grit like 600 or even higher. For the surface and type of paint we used, 320 did the job just fine. As seen in our video, we finished with a scuff pad to smoothen the overall result.
