I really like the different base colors- they make it look like the docks were kinda cobbled together out of different woods and often repaired ❤

Thank you! I do like a bit of colour here and there, and thought it would make an interesting tutorial video. Cant wait to get stuck into the buildings though! :):)

Thank you!! I tried something a bit different and used some chilled out music as a background - hope it works alright? :):)

Looking good, can't wait to see how you do your tiles... As for old sun dried wood I use Valejo silver grey (70.883) and dry brush it on.
@SwordsandBrushes Жыл бұрын
Thanks, I think I'll try a couple different colours with the 2 kits and show both. I think the grey and some drybrushing would work well for one:)

This is fantastic 👏 I love your videos so helpful mate you are an inspiration to the community and this has helped my hobby funk. I have not painted a model in 2 months but this has definitely helped me get out the funk. Keep up the fantastic work Chris 👏 💪
@SwordsandBrushes Жыл бұрын
Ah no dude how come you got the funk? Sorry to hear! you are normally knocking it out of the park! Glad that it could get you inspired to pick up a brush again, even if you just do some easy basing or a fun little building then its progress :)

Looks amazing! Is there a difference between using contrast paints and the oil wash you’re using? Newer to painting and want to try out some new techniques

Really great video. I love the range of colours you use and how well they come together. Definitely inspired in some wood based terrain projects!

Thank you! Cheers :) It's going to be a fun project but will take a while with what i have planned for it. But you have to start somewhere i suppose! :):)

It’s incredible of you to put the citadel equivalent paint underneath the colour you are using! Helps me out a lot since my citadel paint collection is very large

Thank you, i thought it would be a helpful little addition to the videos just so that people can follow along with either brand :)

Really great video, can’t wait to see the next one. I’d love to see how to achieve some water effects?! This looks like such a good set for a game 😊

Thank you very kindly, and i'm glad you liked the video :) Yes i think once ive done around 4 sets of these which should be enough co ver a 2x2 playing area - i will tinker with some water! :)

Currently in the process of doing this on some MDF terrain, looks good, though I think I got the wrong type of oil paint. It's thick and matte, reminds me of those solid sticks of paint that oil pastels come in. Really had to water it down, in a manner of speaking, and it's been two hours and it's still leaving oily splotches on my fingers whenever I touch it. Still works exactly as it looks in the video, just for others, be wary of the type of oil paint you buy, there's multiple types
@SwordsandBrushes Жыл бұрын
Ah yes there are many types of oil paint and i did the same thing when i first tried some out. Im in the UK and places like The Range and Hobbycraft have some nice products. The Winsor and Newton Series 1 Fast drying oil paint is the one that i like the most for this sort of thing. Not tried it on MDF yet, it may do something a bit different as wood sponges up paint a bit, unless you do some preparation such as slightly watered down Mod Podge glue (from what i have seen on another video)

@SwordsandBrushes yeah, lesson learned, it's dry now but now nothing sticks to it XD took three days to dry, think I'll try modge podge on it

What primer did you use? The end result looks fantastic!
@SwordsandBrushes9 ай бұрын
Ah that would be 'Trench Brown' by Colourforge, it's a brand that i discovered recently and i love the range of colours that they have, but importantly it has a nice coverage :)

Yes i have them planned in :) I got married recently and my work has just pushed my schedule back a lot. But i have them on my desk along with a few other minis which i shall be doing for the channels :):)

Why did you choose do use an oil-based wash instead of an acrylic wash? Is there an effect with oil that you can't get with acrylic?
@SwordsandBrushes7 ай бұрын
Thank you for the question, honestly i bought a few products just before i started on this project and i wanted to try them out :) For the oil-based washes i like using them in general as you can go back to them and amend them using a bit of artists white spirit. Even weeks after so it can be quite versatile in that regard. But i'll try to do a variety of methods and techniques across the videos so there is a bit of something for everyone :)

I salvaged an ink cartrigde from a plotter. Do you think i can use the ink for miniature painting?
@SwordsandBrushes Жыл бұрын
Id say so! Give it a bash :) I used to use Winsor & Newton Drawing Inks for a time to use as shades - especially the black and the nut brown for metals!
