This has always been difficult and there is surprisingly very few videos by modelers showing how to do this. Thanks very much for revealing this 'secret' of model stripping. It comes at a great time as I'm trying to strip the AMT 1969 Trans Am. The decals that came with it are BLACK not BLUE, why they did that is a mystery.
@TheMuscleCarModeler4 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I had one of those issues as well with the Black decals! I bought Fred Cady decals for mine. It also came with blue Trans Am decals.

Very impressed! I've done a few similar to this with two or three colors but never tried to paint the thin line. If I wanted the thin line I would cut it off the decal but it only worked with black. Usually. But I am curious as to why you did the blue first. Besides being more difficult to get coverage, it appears that masking the white would have been easier than the blue
@TheMuscleCarModeler Жыл бұрын
Somewhat pore planning. Originally I was going to use the kit supplied decals but decided to make the stripes more accurate to a real Baldwin Motion so I did the masking.

Here’s a tip for laying out the perfect gap. Lay a piece of your .5mm tape right up against the tape edge, then another piece of tape directly against the edge of that tape, then pull the first and boom, even gap from start to finish

Nice tutorial Raoul. Question regarding the cleaning up of the overspray...do you clear coat before putting the stripes on? Overspray is super simple to cleanup on a clear coat.
@TheMuscleCarModeler4 жыл бұрын
Aaron Baldea I clean up the overspray with a Q-tip and rubbing compound. Just make sure the rubbing compound doesn’t have silicone in it. That will make the clear coat fish eye.

I would have laud down white first the laid down the stripes with tape then spray the blue idk is this the correct way to do it as well both ways his and line or is his the better way
@TheMuscleCarModeler2 жыл бұрын
That is the better way. You should start with the lightest color. I painted my real car that way. This build I was planning on using the decals till I realized they were not even close to correct. It was supposed to be a quick build.

Nice that came out clean from what I could see 👍👍 do you recall how long you let the paint dry before removing the tape?
@TheMuscleCarModeler3 жыл бұрын
Not very long. Let it dry for about an hour then removed the masking. Then let it dry for a week. That was when I did any color sanding and touch ups. Clear coat was weeks later.
