His paints are creamy in the pallet. More like gouache consistency…? He never added water to activate the paints. This painting is beautiful but it behaves more like an acrylic painting than a watercolor.

Hey, may I ask what the point of painting with watercolour like it's acrylic paint is? Do you use it because the paint doesn't dry up and become unusable? Or do you like the look of watercolour, but don't like how it acts wet-on-wet, or even dry-on-wet?

Just a guess...he may have wet the back of the paper. It's quite unclear if he let it dry completely at any point so that he could rewet it. This man is a wizard at painting with watercolor. I wish there was more information in the info section but we can at least enjoy his work :)
@rafaelsaint-clairbraga87313 жыл бұрын
@@darvoid66, thanks a lot for your reply. Yes! He probably re-wet the paper during the process! The thing is that, depending on the brand of the paper and the way pigments reacts, the effect might not be as good as a single spontaneous layer. Anyways, painting in watercolor is difficult for people like me who lives in warmer and dry places (i live in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil). Even using the best watercolor papers, like Arches, I use very cold clean water + glicerin in order to let the paper wet and with moisture so I can work with the wet on wet technique for most of the time.

@@rafaelsaint-clairbraga8731 o think i know how he keeps stuff so wet for a long period of time. alittle trick for people that are in your situation... 1. There is a product called "Winsor and Newton - Watercolor Blending Medium " and it is designed to keep your Watercolors wet for much longer for exactly what its named for... Blending lol. It makes the open time ( wet ) of your paints much longer or even your paper. You can replace the water with it at 100% strength from the bottle, to your paint mixes... or you can put it in a clean cup of water, and use that cup for mixing your paints... or you can mix it with water and soak your paper with. Now, 2 is what I actually... I have a feeling he might be doing something similar. Most paint retarders for water-based Mediums like acrylic, gouache and Watercolors, all have 1 main ingredient in the store bought brands like the Winsor and Newton watercolor Blending Medium, and Golden Acrylic retarder. It is pure propylene glycol, not glycerin like everyone thinks it is. Glycerin will leave your paints sticky if you use to much, it also becomes a dust magnet, and attracts bugs. With pure propylene glycol, it will completely evaporate out of the paint 100%, leaving just the cured pigments. Too much glycerin and your paints won't dry because glycerin won't fully evaporate from acrylic paints... and Watercolors will stay sticky. Propylene glycol will even evaporate fully in below zero freezing weather, hot and humid weather conditions, whatever. I make a bottle up with 50% propylene glycol and 50% deionized water ( or distilled water if I don't have deionized water) and just 1 drop of glycerin.... and that pretty much is what the Winsor and Newton watercolor Blending Medium is! I use it with my gouache so they don't dry out fast, I use it with my acrylic gouache so it doesn't dry fast, Watercolors, acrylics ill even use the propylene glycol straight with no water!. The stuff works amazing and it can be bought on Amazon, both the winsor and newton watercolor Blending Medium and the 100% pure propylene glycol. The winsor newton watercolor blending medium works with gouache too. Hope you can get ahold of one or the other, because it will be a life saver for you. Have a wonderful day 😊

Ohhh I forgot to mention this lol... as iam painting and waiting for ot to dry, I was like Ohhh s*&^ I forgot about that lol. I use alot of 300 lb paper and even Arches 400 lb cold press paper... paper that is that thick don't need to be taped down, plus they hold alot of water for much much longer than 140lb paper. All you need to do is soak the paper fully in water for about 5 minutes. Or brush the water on front and back, wait 10 minutes and do it again on both sides... the paper will stay wet for a long time. Cheers

I don't think he deserves a thumbs down Just because he's not giving all the information you want. He doesn't owe you or us anything. He's just demonstrating a painting for FREE. Sometimes it's up to us to observe and figure the hows and the whats. Not everything needs to be handed to us on a plate.
