I'm so glad that you started your KZbin channel Juan. Most people hide this sort of stuff behind a pay wall so it becomes pretty much impossible to pass the information on to new painters. I think more painters like yourself should freely share information.

@@JuanHidalgoMiniaturesNothing wrong with earning a living doing what you love. Your not cheating anyone. Your level of talent didn't just happen. It took a lot of time and effort. It's called 'earning' a living for a reason. You deserve it. Even consider it like busking. I'd 'buy you a coffee' if you organised some sort of donations box. I think gold TMM is such a fun "color" to work with. There are so many interesting options when you move beyond Retributor Gold + Reikland Fleshshade. There's so much we can do with it. Glazing in purples, blues or greens for shading really makes the gold interesting / "pop" compared to just using a darker shade of the same hue and adding really bright silvery highlights can give it that eye-catchingly alluring lustre. Also, the different types of gold and finishes is also a lot of fun to experiment with - eg. red, white, "old", tarnished gold etc.

Wow Juan this is tremendously eye opening. I love TMM and this method looks like a game changer. The build up of metallics before applying shades makes so much sense (as washes knacker TMM). I'm a huge fan of VJ Metal Colors (Chrome being my go to guy for final TMM highlights). I'll definitely try the VJ Air Silver though as it looks super smooth. Yh my problem is, that most metallic colors have such a bad consistence and are way too translucant to really paint with them. Most metallics are barely good enough to be used with drybrush or in an airbrush thinned down. But if you try to thin down metallics, you ruin the color. Do you have any good tipps on that problem? This would really help alot. Like good colors (pls be honest) and maybe tipps how to thin them down. Water doesn't seem to work well with it.

With all respect, not worth it... TMM works lovely on a small scale with a "speed paint" approach in mind - coat, wash/weather, drybrush/reinforce. Banging head on NMM approach but with TMM you get a point of diminishing return extremely fast. Unless your goal is a competitive edge, its just not worth it imo. please dont treat it as a try to speak down your paint job - the result is amazing and a well-worth display case.
@JuanHidalgoMiniatures
@JuanHidalgoMiniatures Жыл бұрын
Well, I start the video by explicitly saying this is for Competition Level painting, competition painting is inherently not efficient at all, if you are painting to that level, things like return on investment is not something you think about.

Can you do a tutorial on how he does that on that super dark steel recipe he does on his Instagram?
@JuanHidalgoMiniatures
@JuanHidalgoMiniatures Жыл бұрын
I might do in the future, but it's the same process, just using dark steels and silvers and black ink, maybe a bit of Payne's grey etc.

When you glazed the umber ink over the purple how many times did you have to do it?
@JuanHidalgoMiniatures
@JuanHidalgoMiniatures Жыл бұрын
A couple coats, maybe three in some areas. It's very easy to see how many you need because you will see the purple toning down

Hello Juan! This is amazing and exactly what I needed. Can I ask the reason you mixed retributor armor to the first 2 colors? Is it because you like retributor’s hue but prefer the other two colors’ properties during painting? What if I skip adding the retributor altogether?
@JuanHidalgoMiniatures
@JuanHidalgoMiniatures Жыл бұрын
I added it to change the hue, I didn't like either hue, I think it needs to be way more yellow to read well as gold and Retributor is a FANTASTIC paint specially used to saturate and make other golds more opaque

Incredible! What kind of protective finish would you recommend for a table top piece to keep the paint job safe while not destroying the effect?
@JuanHidalgoMiniatures
@JuanHidalgoMiniatures Жыл бұрын
I prefer no finish BUT if you had to use one, I would use Vallejo Metal Color Varnish on the metal, then paint the rest of the details and varnish those by hand with a matte varnish
