This video's been a treat to the eyes and my ears as well! Fantastic technique. You got me wide-eyed at least two times during your painting. And the funky bluesy music made it a totally worthwhile experience! Thank you and kudos to you!

Amazing insight into a gifted mind. I actually let out a scream when the blue and orange went on the first washes. I could not believe it would work, but it did! Watching the painting in action is like being inside your head. I love how you flit from flower to flower, a little here, a little there. Water color is such a free and expressive art. Thank you for posting!

Lovely variation on your other videos. Can't wait for Part 2, so some comments/questions: 1. Working with such wet paper and you only taped it to your board?? 140# would cockle like crazy that wet. Using 300#? I have to stretch and staple my 140 # to do this. 2. I usually dilute Aliz Crimson, add maybe a touch of red to get pink but seeing this, may have to buy a tube of Perm Rose. 3. Same with vermillion...I usually add a touch of pyrrole red to cad orange. It's more to simply my "paint collection" and not stock so many colors. But, I do like vermilion, as it's a very rich red/orange. 4. Your paint mixtures had to be very thick to avoid blooming, which only appeared to occur in a couple of places. 5. The use of the cloth! How tricky are you? I'm going to try this. I've been painting from your first flowers book, but may set that aside and try this approach. Thank you!
@TrevorWaugh9 жыл бұрын
+Mike Porter Hi Mike 1. keep the paper soaked ...both sides if necessary ! I'm using Fabriano Artistico 300lb 640gms very durable surface. 2. No !... Use Perm rose...perfect for flower pinks ! and cheap as chips ! 3. I swear by Vermillion . beautiful colour ...adding a touch of Indian yellow to it now and then gives it more transparency ! 4. I very often load a DAMP brush with pure colour ..stops blooming 5. Use of cloth / old-fashioned rag-rolling trick used in decorative trades to produce wall papering effects before printed patterns were available . hope this info helps . Aye T
@tmikeporter9 жыл бұрын
Got it, Podnuh. Just as I suspected. It appears that WN only makes Vermillion as I usually buy Daniel Smith and/or M. Graham. Just ordered some Rose.

I started on cotmans, now I have switched up a few colors and it's a mix of Lukas 1862, W&N, MaimeriBlu, and Daniel Smith all together in a 24 half pan set. I know it's a lot of money to get prof paints but I feel the need my paintings will look better, so should I replace every cotman color with a prof or buy a whole new set?
@TrevorWaugh7 жыл бұрын
That's a Question...I stick to a mixed set of artist's colours and good quality student colours. I change them out every so often and work within a budget. It's all a question of preference. Obviously there are more bulking agents in student varieties.. but performance is the requirement ! for instance, I require Artist's quality Vermillion... because the student variety does not perform properly..and so on ... however yellow ochre in student is virtually the same....i'm afraid it's just trial and error...hope this helps Johnny !

i dont understand how your paper is not warping...as you've only taped it down at the corners, not the sides...i see so many artists painting wet in wet without their paper buckling at all...often they havent taped it down at all...somebody said if you wet it thoroughly in the tub for example, then it doesnt buckle, but that's not what ive found...even when using good quality like saunders...any advice please?
