Love these birds! I had 3 children spend the day last Saturday, for several hours. Their mom was here, with my son, and I had two projects ready for them. I had watercolor cards ready, and demonstrated how to paint one of your blobby birds. They were 2nd grade, 4th grade, and 6th grade. Two girls ad one boy. They had a great time, and did great work, and added lots of details that I hadn’t added to mine. Age didn’t matter…the all did a great job and had fun and created art to be proud of. When people are negative to me I have two usefull phrases I think of. --"That is what you think". -to remind myself that it is what they think & that is all it is. Also- "I have quite enough of my own negativity, thankyou, I can do without anyone elses." I do not know how that dark line appeared through some of my comment, it is all relevant.

What kind of cynic could possibly be negative about spending half an hour or so in calming relaxation? And watching how to paint darlin' birds that would make you the envy of all your pals! I agree with you, Patricia, I'm not sure how they would come out, but I'm gonna have a blast trying! It's one of very few things at which it's OK to fail-or fall short-and enjoy yourself!

I just started playing with a cheap travel watercolor set this week. This was such a fun video that even a complete newbie like me could put into practice immediately. I like these stylized birds. Since my mom used to do watercolor painting years ago, and she has a birthday coming up, I thought about painting a card for her. One of these birds with the punny “Hoppy Bird-day” on the front was perfect! Thank you for the idea and the quick tutorial.

I have SO enjoyed your whimsical series of tutorials, but I have always done them by tracing your sketches first. Thank you for this tutorial WITHOUT a sketch - it has inspired me to try "on my own!" And as Maria Cheung noted, the advice on using the white pen really helps - I was getting frustrated with mine!
