You are the queen of quilling! I’ve just had a light bulb moment thank you - that tapered triangle or lack of one is where I’ve been going wrong. I just love your use of everyday waste materials to create perfect miniatures. Another item to add to my to do list, my watch again list is full of your tutorials! ❤

That’s so cool Wendy! 🥰 I appreciate you watching and rewatching! That extra triangular piece adds just a subtle angle but enough for it to look more like a clay pot.

Oh, these are so cute! I suggest trying a fabric rotary cutter for those long triangles. Saves the wrists and a step.
@Lauras-tinyview3 ай бұрын
Thank you! ☺️ I have a rotary cutter and an old blade too. I will give it a try. I have arthritis in my neck and shoulder and pushing down on my exacto or utility knife can make it flair up. So I have had to come up with other ways to cut. 😆

I have a ton of quilling supplies from many years ago. I made so many things. Then I just put it all away. I guess I need to pull out all my already cut strips and make some pots. I made small bowls and people before but never any pots. Time to get quilling again. Thanks for reminding me how much fun it is.
@Lauras-tinyview3 ай бұрын
I do that too put stuff away and then never use it again. After recently moving into a one bedroom apartment I decided if I’m keeping it I better use it or donate it. 😆 Glad I inspired you to pull out some forgotten quilling supplies.

Thank you Laura. You must have read my mind as I was wondering how to make convincing terracotta pots from paper. The thing I like about your method is that each pot is different and you can control the size. Am currently making tins for the pantry shelf and it is so satisfying to make use of scrap paper and give this resource another life👍 . BTW if you have any grout over from a tiling job it mixes well with paint to give a stone effect.
@Lauras-tinyview3 ай бұрын
It’s been mentioned how it’s quicker to run a strip of paper around a handle of something to make a pot. That’s true but you don’t get that subtle angle of the clay pot and the paper makes it look thin. That’s a great and fast method but I really wanted these to look thick and chunky. I’m glad I was able to read your mind. 😆 That’s so true how super satisfying it is to make something yourself and better yet if it was going to trash. Seeing it take on the new life because you took the time to make it is satisfying. How are you making your tins? Are you quilling any of them?Thanks so much for sharing that tip about tile grout. Do you think that spackle or wall compound could do the same too?
@coby98963 ай бұрын
Definitely using scrap paper and quilling the tins. With a bit of gesso on top and bottom then painted silver the results are those round subtle circles that cans used to have, some still do👏 Spackle or wall compound might be a little too smooth but worth a try. I just had the grout on hand and it goes a long way. BTW it is cheap and readily available from tile suppliers if you don’t have any left overs.
@Lauras-tinyview3 ай бұрын
@@coby9896 That was going to be my next question… what if you never tile but want the grout? Sounds like I need to pick some up to have on hand. It’ll be fun to experiment. Thanks again for sharing that with me.

Welcome! I have made them that way too. You are right they are much quicker and less paper. I wanted something that was heavier, chunky looking like clay not thin. I appreciate you for sharing that method way with me. It’s a great tip!! 😊

I've made 4 "houses", I'm working on a hobbit house now (5th one). It's got a top "Patio"... and a front porch. Looks like I'll be making these for them all! busy busy busy! lol Thank you for showing us your skill!!! These are really nice. Might I suggest though... instead of gesso, you might want to try mod podge. It's stronger and holds the item very well too.
