Hey dan great video man, i have a question, is it okay to carry a small piece of paper with questions you want to ask during communication or history written on it? If yes Is it okay to just peep at it when doing the exam?
@dridmedicaltutorial3313 ай бұрын
Great feedback. In the 2nd communication scenario, was there a discussion around involving the coroner since the death happened during the procedure? Did the wife request to talk to the Dr who did the procedure and how was that addressed if so? Thanks
@drdanbeese3 ай бұрын
@@dridmedicaltutorial331 I explained very lightly that there would likely be a coroner referral and the bereavement team would be in touch, however, think the point of the communication station was to demonstrate breaking bad news rather than testing content. You are entirely right, death like that would be referred to coroner, but think in this acute consultation it's making the family aware of what happened in very simple terms and breaking the bad news. You can always explain we will talk about the next steps, refer you onto bereavement services etc. but for now, do you have anyone you can call or can I get you a cup of tea and give you some time to collect your thoughts etc. so yes, defo touch on those kind of nuances but remember what the primary objective of the station is. I cant quite recall re the treating team. I may have again alluded to it. I think there is less of a I guess structured or formalised approach to this one. I think perhaps if it came up you could say, I'd like you to take some time and I'll come back and answer any questions you have. Any questions I can't answer, I can endeavor to get in touch with the treating consultant and perhaps request they give you a call or arange to meet you. Again most of the station was repeating the messaging in very simple terms as to what had happened and then being very kind and empathetic and thinking about the immediate next steps. Aka, welfare of that person. Anyone you can call, anyone youd like me to inform (sometimes they don't want to or know how to explain it to relatives) anything I can get you and then probably good to explain your going to come.back and check on them. Does that sound reasonable? Thanks for commenting Dan

Hi Dan! Really enjoy your videos, great content and glad I've subscribed to your channel. I just want to say thanks for such a great video, really inspiring and comprehensive and so useful! I'd be really grateful if you could answer a few queries that I have about sitting PACES. I am in a similar'ish situation to the one you were in last year; I passed MRCP Part 1 in 2019 and Part 2 in 2022 (back when I was in ACCS training). It's always been a niggle at the back of my head and a deep desire to sit and pass PACES in order to get MRCP - partly driven by my passion for both clinical examination and clinical signs/symptoms. However, I've been put off from thinking about sitting PACES because I am now coming to the end of GP training and will be a GP in a few months time. 1) Do you think it's still possible for me to sit and pass PACES given my current situation? Is it possible to have left it 'too late' so to speak? 2) I'm assuming as a GP I could still sit PACES - but I am guessing I would just be low down on the priority list, is that right? 3) Do I have to rejoin the RCP in order to apply to sit or have anyone 'sign me off' as eligible to sit? (I know that IMT trainees normally need their 'supervisor' to state that are 'ready' to sit PACES - just not sure how that would apply for me. 4) Lastly, as a GPR / GP - do you think it's essential that I join a hospital PACES group in your opinion? If so, should I just approach my local hospitals post-grad education department to see if I could be involved in PACES teaching? It's a bit tricky thinking about the 'next steps' when it comes to starting PACES prep. Anyway, thanks for your time - would appreciate what you would recommend for someone like me who is primarily working within primary care. Thanks again for the great video! Luke

Ah awesome luke. Thanks so much for the feedback. Honestly makes making these videos worth it hearing that they are helpful. Obviously similarities with our situations but also differences. Reading between the lines, I am sensing there is a part of you that really wants to finish it off? If that's the case, then id absolutely say it's doable. You'll have loads of experience from accs and also doing gp. Although it is obviously different, it's all treating and seeing patients and you'll know so much that you don't even realize. No need to do any sign offs, but think you may be further down the list but equally I'm sure you can say on your application that you want to do some hospital registrat work or something to boost your app. 100% doable tho. Do you want to drop me an email drdanielbeese@gmail.com and we can jump on a zoom call. Equally, join self improvement sunday's on the link and we can discuss at the end tomorrow after the meeting? Either way, let's jump on a zoom and discuss. Hope that is somewhat helpful? Have a think about of you do want to really do it. If you do- it's 100% doable 👍 Bw Dan

DO WE HAVE TO BE AS PERFECT AS PASTEST VIDEO'S CANDIDATE'S PERFORMANCE ?
@MuhammadZeeshanArif128 ай бұрын
Hi there. I wanted to ask abt the availability of paces slots in UK. Are there enough number of centres in UK or people have to be waiting for some time to get the seats? IMT trainees are preferred but what if there is some one outside the UK and wanting to attempt the paces in UK? Do such people get slots easily or not ?
@drdanbeese8 ай бұрын
I think that you'd be further down the list applying from outside the UK. I'm not an expert on this but I think probably IMT get the first choice, then UK trainees, then everyone else is the feeling I got - not sure if that is the case so do your own research but hope that helps answer your question. What is Sharkemm?
