Repair or patch a hole in fabric upholstery. This method works best on fabrics with thick, yarn-like threads or a fuzzy nap-like microfiber, not finely-woven fabrics. A similar method can also be used to repair carpet.

I've looked at over 2 dozen videos on patch repair. Your's is the absolute best! I think using the fuzz method so many people do just makes another noticeable spot. It's an improvement but still noticeable. I read somewhere to put on mayonnaise, give a couple minutes, and then wipe off with a damp cloth. If there is still "burnt" edges remaining, remove carefully with a razor blade or new super sharp scissors. Basically use fabric scissors, fabric subfloor material, and fabric glue. Anyway, I just wanted to thank you as I wouldn't have used any subfloor material. Then again, my burn holes are so small that I may be able to just glue a tiny piece of matching fabric as I would have to literally cut into the fabric to put a piece of subfloor material underneath. Thank you for the tips and an excellent job on producing a short but concise & informative video!!! Two huge thumbs up!

This worked great on my couch with a huge cigarette burn. Saved me $75-$200 quoted by professional. Took me forever to cut the patch perfectly though. I also had to cut fabric from inside the cushion so the fabric is a bit lighter, wish I had thought to dye it first. Unless you knew the patch was there, you probably wouldn't notice it. Thank you for a fantastic video! I used Gorilla Fabric glue and a sub patch of denim from some old jeans .

Yes, it does look better. Thanks for tip re glue, as I wondered what type of glue would be best. I was expecting that you would stitch across the patch also in order to hold the repair. That would show all the more, which is disappointing, but how well does the glue alone hold, and does it prevent the hole from spreading as the cushion is used?
@RubnRestore

The subpatch restores structural integrity to the repair and keeps the hole from widening. This type of glue is tough as nails. It's used to apply emblems to vehicles.

@mamafractal 2 жыл бұрын
@@molly041809 No. This took no sewing. You have to be very precise with sizing and cutting the patch. Especially if it's patterned material. I no longer have the couch, as it was already 5 yrs old when I got it, and we got new couches 3 yrs ago. But it held up through 2 toddler grandbabies. The hardware broke before the patch ever came close to coming off!

Hi! our daughter's hamster chewed a small hole in our microfiber sofa. It is only about 1cm or so wide, and will more or less push back together. This cushion has a foam insert which I can remove via a zipper and get to the back without having to slip anything in from the top, but what's a good backer.. the denim patch? What is the best glue to use to make this as inconspicuous as possible? From my understanding latex glue is flexible but stays tacky. The 3M glue you are using (for trim) in this video in my experience dries a bit hard. Finally, there will be some white fiber edges showing after gluing. Can I just color w/ a marker or some other sort of dye? The color is dark navy. Thanks so much for any advice!

Hello. I came across your demonstration while looking for ways to patch a hole in a comforter. While I don’t think this method will work for me I’m curious to know what you used to apply the glue? Is that a needle attached to something? Or a specific tool? I’m always fixing or making things and use skewers for glue but they quickly get gummed up. What ever that was looked much better.

@@lesandreholiday - Yeah, it's been around since 1932 or thereabouts so I find it hard to believe that a product from back then is non-toxic. I mean that's an era where glow in the dark children's toys were bathed in radioactivity to make them glow and everybody was surrounded in lead based everything. Frankly, no matter what the product, if it's not toxic, I don't trust that it works. I'll happily embrace, and deep-inhale, plumes of carcinogenic toxins as long as the product works and doesn't dry up in the closed bottle!
