I was able to save $130,000 (I have six more months to save). Do you recommend I use this money to live off three years. Or should I pay some tuition?

My local hospital (an Advent Health hospital in FL) has their own college, that offers a CRNA program. The college is about an hour and a half from the hospital, but they offer a paid internship program and pay for your school. In return, they have you sign a contract to repay the debt with years of working at that hospital. Similar to the military. I’m not sure what the pay is or how much they cover.

Look into forgiveness plans. If you're a healthcare worker there is a 10 year plan. I'm currently on an income based repayment and it'll be forgiven in 10 years, regardless of what I paid back.

This is my long term plan and life may say nope. But what I want to do is first graduate ADN. Work in the ICU for 1-2 years get my BSN. Then travel ICU nursing for 2-3 years and save enough money for the tuition and money for 3 years of living expenses. I will do my best!

Also for the private loan just a simple term life ins policy will alleviate your fears about your next of kin being held liable for your debts.
@juanaliaga23214 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the video Jason. Lots of good info. Question, was there any other advantage, besides the lower interest rate, that made you decide to consolidate your govt loans into a single private one? Seems like a big deal since, like you mentioned, your NOK can be held liable for the private sector debt in case of untimely death.

I think what ppl fail to realize about the PSLF is that it’s not the minimum payment it’s the full monthly payment (that’s what makes it a qualifying loan payment) otherwise it doesn’t “qualify” … hope that helps !
@heyschwudup Жыл бұрын
Not sure what you are saying here...but one can pay the minimum amount based on their income up to as much as they want per month. "Full" payment refers to meeting the minimum as calculated by your earnings.

It’s possible to get private loans but it will be difficult because you have to have a co-signer with good credit but you won’t qualify for government loans
@modernenergy6823 жыл бұрын
No
@natashiamelton44024 жыл бұрын
Hahaha your accent!!! I bet Cali people love it! Also, you can do a line of credit with your banker.. if you need extra money. Now you will have to pay a minimum monthly payment once you start using that money, but once you sign for the loan it’s yours for whenever you need it. So, for example, you could go 2 years without using the money then something happens and you need that money. You can take it out and start paying on it then. It helps though to have some money set aside, but is a good option for needing money in a pinch.

How would the loans become separated? Are the loans separated by the year and each year has its own "account" gathering interest?
@BoltCRNA4 жыл бұрын
Yes, exactly. It’s new loans each year piling on top of the previous years that has already gained interest fees.

Military is one way. The other way is paying it back little by little each month. I suggest refinancing with a private loan company after you graduate and getting a low interest rate.

4 choices: You qualify for Medicaid if you stop work. You get it through your parents if you're under 26. You get the student health insurance. Have a spouse and get it from a family plan.

They will allow you to take out more than $30k a year. They will offer grad plus loans which I think was another $40,000 a year. So probably $75,000 a year offered in loans if you want to take on that much. That interest will be killer though.

The military is the only option I know of that will pay off the majority or all of your loans. You may be able to negotiate a small sign on bonus with different groups but that probably won't be more than $20,000.
