Shumi's reasoning behind not driving cars is the most Shumi answer ever! I've never known anyone as passionate about motorcycles as Shumi is, so it didn't make sense to me why he wasn't into cars. But in typical Shumi fashion, he has a very calculated reasoning behind the same. Mad respect man! Your approach towards everything in life is inspiring.

This message is for Shumi. I’ve read and followed you ever since your Overdrive days. This was when Sirish was editor-in-chief. It’s been an absolutely rewarding experience reading your, Sirish’s and Bert’s articles and editorials all through school in Overdrive! Now with MotorInc, I feel that same warmth return to auto journalism, that goes above so much more than just cars and bikes. Thank you for starting this initiative and more power to you!

"I used to be that kid." The best memories I've made from my first ever week-long ride last month on my first bike are when kids come and ask "Bhayya, can I take a photo with your bike?" The sheer amount of happiness it gave me is something I can't put into words. Because I used to be that kid. And that's why every time I see any kids admire my bike, I let them take as many photos as they want, no matter how busy I am or what I am doing at the moment.

This was not just a talk about bikes and cars. It's also about dreams and aspirations and how to achieve them. As a guy in his late 20s still confused about life, this conversation really touched my heart on so many levels. I've realised that I have been living without a dream and that is one of the reasons why I am still so muddle headed. Thank you Shumi and Karthik!

This is probably the best podcast I have listened to in a good while, I don't just mean the realm of awe inspiring motorcycles. In general, I don't know how more real can you get than this. The instances of their loved ones pushing them for the dream bikes, finding out ways, discussing maths. Amazing Amazing Amazing. KZbin just played this after a song I was listening to and in the beginning they say it's a small episode. The next thing I know 45 minutes have passed and all I wanted to do was listen to you guys talk. Keep up the good works guys. OG OG Podcast. Lots of Love.

I would like to thank Shumi for his advice on Paying for dream motorcycle. I followed his advice on saving money and calculating how much EMI one can pay per month while deciding to buy the dream motorcycle (this was from the podcast which was done way back in powerdrift). This advice helped me a lot to save up some and upgrade my pulsar 135 to an interceptor. Now, watching this in depth conversation between Shumi and Kartikeya here helped me and my wife to save up and pay for our first car (Nexon EV). Thanks a lot guys.

I'm loving the "ThisConnect" series a lot, such insightful for young automotive enthusiasts like me. These experiences like how Kartikeya dreamed of owning the Busa and now owning it is truly what a middle-class jobber was looking for. Motivates me keep working (and saving up) towards my dream bike, The Continental GT650 and dream car, Mustang someday. I've also learned that no matter however posh a vehicle you buy, its worthless until you're able to drive/ride it to its full potential.

As always a wonderful experience listening to the two of you. Recently bought my RR310 after so much internal struggle. Can I really spend 3 lac rupees on myself? I'm a new father. Just got comfortable and settled. Should I do this? I think the answer was I deserved it. I had taken care of everything. I had the money. If money I earn selling my time that I will never get back doesn't serve to make me happy. It's not really money. It's prison. And I agree bike guys are just car guys with no money. I can easily spend on a motorcycle. Ride it for 3 to 4 years and get another one. Mess it up by trying to mod it and still be able to salvage it. Would I take those chances with a car? Nope. Noway. That's where the name of the handle comes from .

Thank you guys, i was heartbroken and sad because i sold my dream-car today who took me to places i never dreamt of but then at some point i was not enjoying it much even though it was a beast but i my back and my shoulders were constantly paining and i was enjoying driving baleno more than the 4*4 automatic Thar. Im still in dilemma whether i did a right thing or a stupid thing but then i know I drove it for 35k kilometres in just 11months and i said good bye to it. Idk time will tell whether it was a sane decision or not as it was not the family car at all even though my gf loved it i loved it my mother loved it despite she struggled to get in & out of it but i am going to miss it and i was sceptical whether i will able to spend and afford that expensive car again on my own and will it be a wise decision but then i learnt very good lessons from this podcasts that you shouldn’t stop dreaming and if something gives you pleasure you shouldn’t think of not owning it as it can be really therapeutic, relaxing and at the end it Will worth taking the risk.

Been following you both from way back and, man, this is some rare insight into what I believe might be an excellent millennial's guide to personal finance and goal-setting. Forget the fact both you guys just exude a level of calm, observation and empathy in spite of your near-encyclopedic knowledge of the industry, or even overlooking the fact that you care enough to not come across as self-indulgent or smug even at the acme of your personal stations in life (very well-deserved, too) and reach out to young, fledgling bikers-hearing you guys debate is just ASMR to gear-frenzied, forever-piqued-to-pick-up-the-slightest-rattle-in-the-engine ears. The thing is that some times we do factor in the budget to be set aside, but most of the times the inflation runs faster than we can chase it. Ultimately, either it is the inflation or the tech upgrade that takes away the dream.. Classic examples. Innova from 12 lacs top model to about 30 lacs within a few years. A Tiger 800 then is a 1250GSA now about 2.5 times the price. The calculation has to factor in either a counted period of 3-4 years or simply the mathematics of saving has to be dynamic - save more every year, same amount cannot be set aside the next year. Many other calculations will work - for example, the interest gained on savings has to beat the inflation, but will it?.. Then are mutual funds SIPs better... one may go on debating. There are exceptions and there are tremendous possibilities. Great to hear your views. Awesome podcast again. Kudos MotorInc.

I have been working toward my dream machine, and it always scares me - may it not be too late till I reach a point to get my dream bike that runs on fuel rather than a battery, since EVs are the future and it is replacing fuel engines. Loved the episode.😊

I was 10 years old when I saw shumi riding the busa alongside the r8 in Jaisalmer on overdrive. I’m about to be 26. I saw shumi buy his 200, his 390, his street triple, him breaking his leg when he crashed it, him buying the multi, saw him share his note for Aarti, his home gym days, his overdrive to pd transition, even once met him in an HnM of all places in 2018 in my merchant navy outfit and was starstruck, and now just hearing him say “I can buy any bike I want” almost made me tear up. I hope to buy my first superbike by end of next year and I hope I get to meet him again. I was part of the IBW team last year but couldn’t meet him because of all the work but I wish to meet him in person and tell all this once again. I’ve met so many famous people and I never cared. Shumi is one of the only people that keeps reminding to live my own life, seek my own dream.

Hello sir, I know this is out of no where but I was really stressed in these past few days which is a Guess very common when you're in your mid 20's but this podcast gave me so much peace it made me feel like I have time in my hand and nothing else is gonna run out of time unless I want it to. It really took away a lot of my stress and made me go like I'll have it all one day. Also I started to follow you after your one bike garage video. I have an Apache RTR 160 and after a year of my job I started thinking oh I should have waited and bought a dominar or ktm instead but after that video I fell for my bike again and started giving it the love it deserved because it was what I wanted and could get at that point it in time and rather that searching for that feel in some other next bike I can feel it now in my own Apache. Thankyou Sir, keep making these podcast. I really helps a lot people in me to escape the social trends and be pratical and appreciate "our" machines ❤️

Another great episode! I had dreamt of buying Himalayan since the time I first saw it. Finally was able to purchase that in 2020. Fast-forwarding it to now, in just more than two years, the engine is gone and I haven't got back the bike. The bike is at the service centre for the past two weeks. I don't think paying such amounts and buying Enfield bike is worth it these days. We don't get the service we deserve and the parts breakdown anytime. It is always good to think big and if one is able to save enough for a Himalayan then can definitely save some more to buy something more reliable and worth the money. P.S.- I have been bugging Shumi for a long time with my Himalayan experience.

Hey guys. I was never into podcasts, but these videos, even though very long, they make me sit and introspect the very little I know and giving ideas to improve and plan for next. Karthik highlighted the importance of experiencing the ownership of a car and that's a great point. I own a 2020 DZire AMT VXi (for my dad's convenience), very basic. It hurts to fill up the tank, 'cuz it gives b/w 10-14 kmpl in city and makes up for it by giving 23-26 kmpl on highway and I feel absolutely amazing everytime I take it out. I think I have that joy of ownership, partly because I own it at the age of 27 and even before marriage. I remember a point from the other video, where Shumi talked about used vehicle. I've purchased a 2011 Yamaha FZ S v1 in Pune, it's been 4 years, and the bike is still on owner's name and he's very patient and kind. I wasn't from Maharashtra, so couldn't get it registered and then Corona happened. I rode it from Pune to my hometown (720 KM). I feel bad because it's still on owner's name and not mine. 😬 Also, I'm waiting (for past 4 years 😅) for my first new bike, updated Himalayan. Fingers crossed for Himalayan 450. Can't wait for you guys to review it, when it comes out. Amazing stuff guys ! Kudos to making many people sit for 40-45 minutes..!

This video reminded my dream of having a 650 cc bike which gradually got compromised just because I can't afford it right now as I've just started my career at 23. At the end I got an opportunitity to think once again whether I've lost my mindset just because I've started my career at 23 @ 25k per month and I'm desperate to own that bike (Interceptor 650 btw) which takes months if not years for me to own which made my decision to own a 150 cc bike as of now (as a beginner). But upon considering all of your opinions I've come to a point to own a 350 cc bike which would be lighter to my pocket as well as I'm a person who likes to cruise under 100 kmph which is not a big deal for any 350 cc bike out there (specially talking about highness and meteor). Thank you so much for pushing myself to think how to pave the way to not just own a vehicle but also maintain it as well.

I purchased my first HD bike (750 street ) when I was 23 .. it’s been 8 yrs now - my salary was very low then but I took a leap of faith and it opened up a different dimension altogether for me. From NE to border of China - I have covered everywhere on that bike. I am 34 now - low on energy because of work and family responsibilities, I could not have done it now even though I earn a lot more. My advice to young people - just do it - money you can earn any day, “time” you can’t.

We tend to get so overwhelmed by the idea of putting in such a big amount of money, that these dreams seem impossible. To think of it as a ‘goal’ and not just a ‘dream’ is probably the biggest lesson that we all need to learn. In today’s world, it is just too easy to get distracted and lose track of what is important, of the bigger picture. The idea of cheap thrills that can be had easily and ‘right now’ seems more satisfying than waiting a few years for ‘The One’. I’d like to blame social media, but I know the truth deep within... Thanks team Motor Inc for the morning motivation…

Nice one Ranjan. This will feel more real if you use the first person, active voice. Then you'll see how to solve it. I started my career writing for Bikesmedia magazine and I totally agree with Shumi on why he choose bikes instead of cars. Back in 2017, I knew I wouldn't be able to afford the car I really want, which is the LEXUS LFA. I choose bike instead but fate had other plans though as I ended up doing tech journalism profesionally. Seeing podcasts like these, ignites that spark in me again. Althogh I am more of a car guy now. I own a 2020 Suzuki IGNIS, which is again almost light and powerful as a two wheeler, that's available for cheap.

I have 5 all economy type bikes but I like the feeling of having bikes and mopeds in different flavours ( cruiser, adv,Ev etc ) One thing common with all my purchases and modding it along the way is this : 1. Make our bike your own : that means adjusting all levels and suspension like preload to your body weight and size . You will be surprised by the changes it brings to connecting with the bike . 2.Ride along till you know all the pros and cons of your bike : Eg . My ather 450x has brake pads that wear out pretty quick and are a bit strong so i replaced them with aftermarket pads. My Avenger 220 i have replaced the headlight bcoz i realised it's not enough. 3. Just don't modify it because someone did it : I strongly feel this case with the aftermarket exhaust on big bikes which cost 1.3lack etc which could have been used for fuel track days etc 4. Sticking to the maintenance schedule of the vehicle vigorously
