Haze ☘️ … Great information on a very confusing matter for newbies ! I got a visitors Via Verde … charge £1.99 per month when in use , plus toll price of course , great to get this before travelling , send to home address (many countries included) , using home bank also ! I’ll switch to Portuguese Via Verde eventually … oh yes my Visitors Via Verde worked in Spain also ! Thanks Luise xo 🙏☘️😘

Hi, Luise. I'm sure that by now you now what CTT means. It's the portuguese Post services (which are private since 2013). The initials CTT come from Correios, Telégrafos e Telefones (= Posts, Telegraphs and Telephones)

@@Solo50plus Luise, it doesn't look like Veronica did a video on importing her car from North America. I have been trying to find someone (anyone) who can tell me exactly what they (Portugal) requires. I'm assuming it will depend on the make & model/year of the car. If it would cost me the same price (or less) to import and retro-fit my car so I can use it in Portugal instead of having to buy a car there... I'd definitely bring my car. I love my car! But, first I need to know what they (Portugal) needs and how costly it will be to do!

I would just like to add a little note... If you do not have a via verde transponder and just go through regular cash toll booth, you might come across some highways that are toll, but don´t have a toll booth.. Camera will photograph your plate as you enter and exit. I believe you have about a week to pay it without fines. The way can find out if you do have any tolls that are outstanding, is to go to CTT and give them your plate number and they will check for you. Then you can pay it there if you so choose.
@Solo50plus2 жыл бұрын
You CAN NOT do this with a non Portuguese plate. Only people with a Portuguese car can do this. This is why you have to by the prepay card from CTT. You can do this after you have gone through the tolls (you have a lot longer than a week) but the can not tell you what you owe by given them you number plate.
@2L84goodbye2 жыл бұрын
@@Solo50plus I know that you can´t do it with non Portuguese plates, but there are people who have Portuguese plates, who are new to the country and don´t know about this.. That´s why I added the note for informational purposes..

Ok I live in France, But to be fair, I never use motorway tolls in Portugal, I did hear that what Portugal are doing is illegal EU wise, As part of getting the funding from the EU to build them it was on condition they make them free for those of us who live in the EU, Anyway the country is so beautiful we like to use the back roads and are never in a rush when on Holiday anyway. Great channel btw 🙂

Hi quick couple of questions. Best way to get the NIF number and a Portuguese bank account in the UK as I am planning next year to come over for a few months by car and camping to look for a small plot of land. David. PS sorry if you don’t mind, thank you.
@Solo50plus2 жыл бұрын
To get a NIF go into a financia or Loja de Cidadão (Citizen shop) and ask for one. You may be able to get it online. Same with opening a bank account go nto a branch or do ot online. Same as UK!

I'm planning to rent a car in the Algarve near Loulé. Do you know if it is more costly for the 'via verde' at the rental car companies? I'm wondering if it is less expensive to simply go to the website and have them send me one before I visit Portugal?
@Solo50plus2 жыл бұрын
I don't know I would suppose it depends on what the rental company are charging. I wouldn't want to risk registering a number plate that someone else could be driving around the day after I return the car!
@blinktea8789Ай бұрын
i believe you mean "transponder".
@Solo50plusАй бұрын
I believe I explained that mistake!
@dborg562 жыл бұрын
My rental car in Portugal didn't have a transponder device and for the most part i paid the tolls at CTT office just past the 48 hrs. it takes to register on their system . The person at the CTT office told me I had nothing owing. I just got an email from CTT saying I owed $7.30. I do not mind paying it but have no way to do so. The Pagamento de Portagenssite for paying tools online requires me to register with a TIN# which I do not have. How do I go about paying this toll and not incur additional fine?
@Solo50plus2 жыл бұрын
Never heard of toll notices going to the person who hired the car rather than the car renal company!
@panchopuskas1 Жыл бұрын
I once got a 50 euro fine for not getting off a motorway, paying at a separate toll booth off the motorway and then re-entering the same motorway. How on earth was I to know? Unfair just doesn't cut it. That's when I stopped going. I live in Spain where the few motorway tolls that do exist are like all the other tolls in Europe : you stop, you pay with your card, and you go. Portugal is a very nice country to visit but their road toll systems are complicated, obscure and not fit for purpose.....
@Solo50plus Жыл бұрын
Sorry to hear about your fine. Luckily I find it quite easy and straight forward with the transponder.
