You can buy the 1/16 or 1.5mm bar from lots of suppliers, just google the 1.5mm brass bar something will turn up, and micro washers in the USA sell the small washers. www.microfasteners.com/home.php?cat=658

So nerve-wracking this process for me. I spent a lot of time making two sets of scales for vintage razors. One is made of padauk wood and the other is cherry. They started at 1/8" but they're now in the 1/16" range at the thickest. I slightly concaved the inside and convexed the outside. Put a shellac finish on them both. Made brass and nickel silver spacers that I slightly angled to adjust for the flex. I am going to use a dome type collar for the brass and a standard washer for the nickel silver. A lot of tedious hand work went into them and now I need to take a hammer to them. I have a 4oz peening hammer so it is very light but it's nerve wracking.

Please can you explain why it wouldn’t end up centered? Mine are always off
@j.mahoney11786 жыл бұрын
Chris, there can be a few reasons for this, firstly you may have a slight warp in the scales secondly there could be a slight twist in the tang, and thirdly if you do not peen the pin correctly you could cause the pin to twist and throw the blade out of alignment.

I have replied on the video before, but this is the best peening video I seen! I got a question. I'm going to buy me a new peening hammer. Are you familiar with a chasing hammer? The head weight is 3oz. One side has a small round smooth peen and the other side has a fully round, domed and smooth 1" in diameter on the other side. So you think this would be a good peening hammer? By the way I've watched your honing videos, and you hone some impressive edges. I'm a newbie at honing and just got my stones, and I could sure use some pointers. Are they anyway I can contact you by email or on the shaving forums? Good info Sir!

Hi Michael, I have not used a chasing hammer, I have a very old vintage ball peen hammer, being a Carpenter by trade I know what a chasing hammer is, so I would say to you If you are happy with this hammer to go ahead and buy it.

Hi Josh, you can buy the 1/16th nickel silver bar on eBay just put in a general search, plus the links for washers I've posted in my other comments.
@m1k4c2 жыл бұрын
Do you have any advice for materials to use for pins? I've been using 1.6mm (1/16") silver nickel, but I can't find that stuff easily and it's expensive online - since it's only sold in "straight razor pinning kits". I bought some brass rod, but found it to be too hard and too brittle for the job - apparently not all brass is made equal. I have one Nazi Solingen - it was actually "liberated" together with conc.camp Jasenovac prisoners, belonged to a Croatian officer - and the handle was in very bad shape, eventually it broke, so I would like to restore it purely for historical reasons. I don't want to pay 50$ for some mammoth horn, tusk, dick scales, even less I want to pay 10$ for few washers and a piece of wire, I don't wanna do it just out of principle.
