Thanks for the great information. We were able to use the advice to find a lot of termite damage in our home. We made videos of the inspection and damage and are going to document how we fix it.

Great amount of information, thanks Wesley. Going to an Auction at short notice tomorrow and has given me confidence to have a check for obvious signs, understand it will not rule out the potential risk but i will not be going in blind. Thanks

That was excellent. Even though I am from the states and was always a city slicker, I moved to the mountains of Pennsylvania. I just found railroad ties loaded with termites. The basements leak like sieves around here. I think I'm in trouble. Neighbor said she was allergic to the termite product and drove me crazy and I did not have an inspection so now I am tasked with doing the treatment myself and inspection. This is not a good sign for me. Wallpaper is flaking, house became unusually damp. Dehumidifying system hasn't worked effectively since I got it. Think I'm in trouble. I believe I'm being eaten out of house and home. Great video though.

To my disgust, I found termite activities within my house in the last three days. The house is a timber frame with wood veneer walls. The timber frames are treated pines. I have noticed mature flying termites during hot nights on a few occasions, but I thought they would have slipped through the broken fly mess. I didn't even begin to think these come from within the house. Why? Because the wood veneers are supposedly fully termite proof. No worries there. The frames are also treated pines. Again not too much worries there. I was told that treated pines are fully termite proof too. Two nights ago, for some strange reasons, I leaned into a thin non-structural timber column which serves as a cosmetic joining column as well as holding the light switch. The entire bloody column gave way ! It was hollowed out with termites running around still. I had walked past it all the time and never noticed anything abnormal. Really sneaky bastards. In a panic mode, I ripped the entire column out and checked where the electric switch was installed. it appears that when the electrician did the installation, he simply carved out a piece from the wood and installed the switch. On further research, I am led to believe that treated pine's ability to resist termite is rendered useless if it is cut but without further treatment against termites. I believe that is what happened to the column. A weak point was created by the electrician by cutting into the timber. With such new insight, I began to look for further damages. I found the next column where the air conditioner is. Again, a section of the timber was cut to fit the unit in. That is the weak point. Broken hearted and my confidence on treated pine totally shattered. I searched further, and within the walk-in wardrobe, I found another spot. The installer used cheap untreated pine for a quick and dirty frame. Again, that is the weak point. This is a long post, but I hope it helps to highlight the point that treated timber is fine if unbroken. As soon as it is cut or drilled, the broken area must treated, otherwise it becomes an entry point for the insects. My compound saw will be busy for the next few months as I dive into the repairs.

As new homes use pine for the framing and termites love soft woods, do really old houses that use hardwood fare better against termites? I am looking at an old house in country victoria and the house is already pretty knackered, so I was thinking as long as the frame is ok, the rest would be mostly cosmetic
@trustedpestmanage6 жыл бұрын
Its a yes , no answer. So, yes, old hardwood homes definitely fair better then soft wood homes. Termites simply take a lot longer to chew through then say a pine home. Termites will generally hit the hardwood and then go and search for softer timbers - such as skirting boards etc etc...but, if the termites don't have anything else to eat, they will definitely chew through the hardwood. A hardwood frame is a good idea but don't think it will save you. What will save you is regular inspections and keeping a good eye on your place. Well done for purchasing though - good luck with your search :) Wes

I would have made mention regarding the Hot water system, ( a) to low on the concrete, ( b) it's against the wall obscuring viewing of weep holes, ( c) should it leak, water can flow back into the weep holes increasing moisture into the walls- attracting termites to this area...

Hi Mate, Thank you for your video. I checked my meter box and it shows that they used Bifenthrin for my termite reticulation system. I was wondering if we can use Termidor next time to pump it through? Please let me know. Thank you in advance.

Hi Wesley, Can you please give me a recommendation for someone in Victoria? I am purchasing a home that is built in the 1980s and is made from weatherboard (timber). I did a pre-purchase house and pest inspection in which they've mentioned nothing to note however also recommended getting a termite inspection and a treatment plan as the property doesn't have it at the moment. It's mentioned that they did see some past activity of wood borer attack. I'm a bit worried. Thanks David

Thank you for your video. Which brand of the thermal detector do you use? I'm so going to get one.
@trustedpestmanage6 жыл бұрын
Flir brother :) remember it doesn't pick up termite movement, it picks up heat differential - so if you had a large activity behind a wall , you would notice a noted marking on the thermal.
