I am Lineman here in Fiji, looking at the work done makes me realize that all throughout the Globe, the electricity system has the same basic principles, it's only the terms used which is different. I bet I can do that if I am working in that assignment. Good learning indeed.

He got mighty close to the arm with the tail coming out of the shoe when he transferred that dead-end. He should of covered the arm. Also, at what part of the polymer does the the voltage rating begin? Too many differences of potential near that hot tail with no cover. No doubt though they seemed to be two decent linemen.

The insulators are long (and shaped like they are) to account for when it's raining and they're soaking wet. If they're dry and clean, they're far longer than necessary. The dielectric strength of common polymers is 10s of kV/mm, if it's a 15 kV system, a couple of mm of plastic is sufficient.

To avoid double poly on one side they could have caught phases off on new arm, and undone backside phase from shoe cut old arm out of way at the pole then made up the phase and it’s all uniform saves material as it’s hard to get nowadays and then cut out old pole top as normal

New x-arm needs to be covered up, after you cut the conductor the tail length was almost half the length of the insulator. Dead or alive should always cover up on this kind of work. Besides that great job n keep safe brothers👍

Another video I saw they working with bare live wires (without that red protection) and at one point the lineman face was 2cm from the wire when leaning forward trying to look at something...

With all the ground help on scene why are they not using a hand line to get rid of all the old xarm and pole pieces. That's what ground help is for. Work smarter NOT harder.

Cody Whitman it’s hot but it was a normal open switch so no need for jumpers because there is no load going through so no need to keep a path. It it was a normal closed switch then they would have needed to provide a temporary path before cutting everything open

Hell no They are not using a link stick and yes they are going from sling around pole to hot hoist to grip to hot conductor. That's ratty. Imagine if Groundman or anyone touched that pole.

Could have de-energized the one span here like lifting some over arm jumpers or making an open mid-span somewhere near the other pole. Then all of this work could have been complete much safer.
