The fact that the both lane lights go off when you first power the system up shows the test has been complete and both lanes or ECUs are functioning properly therefore doing a simulated mag check is not needed. Conversely the liquid cooled 915 is not going to overheat on the ground between start up and engine run up and pointing into the wind is an old air cooled legacy maneuver.

There seems to be a common misapprehension in the Rotax world that the run-up/Lane Check is not needed. The thought is that, if there was a problem, you'd get a lane light, so no need to do a run-up/Lane Check. This is not true. I had a clogged injector on my 915iS which did not throw a lane light and presented no other symptoms when both lane switches were on. The only way we found out is from excessive RPM drop when turning off lanes individually on the run-up. Do the Lane Check!

If you've flown at a school/airport as busy as Torrance you'd be smart to keep the plane as cool as you can. I personally have experienced overheating just waiting to get a spot to takeoff. Sometimes you will be waiting more than 15 minutes and this can be very hard on the engine when it is very hot out!

You must not fly where it is hot and you spend lots of time waiting on other aircraft on the ground.

Curious why the Sling TSi POH says to do the run-up/Lane Check at 4000 RPM, whereas Rotax says to do it at 2500 RPM. (See section 3.5 of the Rotax 915 iS Operator's Manual). Thoughts? Thanks!

Why would you do a run up at high idle? 🤔

@@lemonator8813 Ask Rotax, that’s what their manual says. It’s just a lane check, it’s not a traditional magneto run up.

@OneAlphaMike I just do what I was trained, which is 4000rpm. It seems like that 4000rpm would give me a better indication of something bring broken. Like the gearbox.
