I had this done 14 years ago March 2010,first da Vinci then epicardial for left side. The lead has fractured no longer works, they tried again thru heart,to high a voltage. I know a little more difficult but I’m trusting my surgeon, thx for the refresher!

Hi Sir. Thank you for your explanation. I am a cardiac scrub nurse, I have an doubt, is it not necessary to put the patient on pump and do the surgery?

Hi, I'm not certain I understand your question. But if you are asking if you need to go on cardiopulmonary bypass to do an epicardial wire, the answer is no. You do not and shouldn't have to go on bypass to place the epicardial leads.

Q: I just had a quadruple bypass. Post op, they left the pacing wires in, just cut the leads surface of skin. Why would they leave them in ? Kinda worried.

That's a great question. It's done all the time. Pacing wires ideally should be removed but often they are left behind because of the risk of bleeding associated with them being pulled out. They normally do not cause any problems however there is a small risk of them eventually protruding out of the skin. The risk is very small. I would not worry too much about this. Good Luck.
