Nice body lock. We're trained to step over, with outside leg as they're falling, and land in full mount where you can base out with your hands or control his arms. If you land in side control with his arm around your neck, the opponent's natural reaction is to head lock you. Oss!
@doctorkimchi79164 жыл бұрын
If the guy headlocks you from the bottom that is a free armbar and or mount anyways :) I do like the idea of going straight to mount. Nothing ever wrong with getting a more dominant position. Oss!

The crazy thing is, everyone knows how important wrestling is to fighting. Wrestling is the most effective background to have for fighting. Yet videos like this don’t get much attention, And I think it’s because lessons like this go over peoples heads. It requires years of hard grappling to understand the value of hip-in body locks and throws. Most people, it’s just uncomfortable.. Wrestling capability is an investment most people don’t make, but it’s an investment that those who find success do. Very few, just like the views on this video, Will make that investment.

I did a BJJ seminar with Royce Gracie, and one thing that he told our opponent to do is smack us if our face was showing... not even kidding. When we did double-unders, we were more linear with the opponent; we pushed with our forehead, flared our elbows to keep their arms up, then slipped our arms down to their waist and then and pulled them in to complete the takedown.
@chris98wallace2 жыл бұрын
This is more of a Greco/Freestyle wrestling takedown rather than BJJ. If you really wanted to, you could inflict a ton of damage with the TD the way Tim demonstrated it. My teammate literally knocked a dude out at a college wrestling tournament… can’t imagine if the same TD were performed on concrete to someone untrained
@aaron475962 жыл бұрын
@@chris98wallace oh I don't doubt that! I guess this takedown can be manipulated to your preference; you want more defense but a softer takedown, do it Royce's way. If you want to smack the earth with a dude, but take the risk of a strike or two, do it your way. Let's also be real, ALL takedowns in BJJ are adapted from either wrestling or judo (I'm a judoka myself) so I'll take any input from a fellow stand-up grappler.
@davidgdmz45514 жыл бұрын
IDK, I wrestled for decades, I'm 60 now so I probably don't know anything anymore but "taking his hips away" isn't going to happen because his hips are stronger than your body lock arms, unless you get to his side with that body lock, and yes there is an AMAZING technique that will guarantee you easily getting to his side with that body lock intact AND incredibly tight - - - send me cash and I'll tell you, but actually I'm old and don't need money so I"ll just tell you - - - - -

A headlock gives you phenomenal leverage to get below their hips and suplex them while their arm is protecting your head .... or you can use a gentler option to trip them backwards, mount then elbow. Lots of options.

Why going on the ground in a Street Fight / in Self Defance🤔?
@colet10964 жыл бұрын
The whole "never go to the ground" thing should be amended to: never go to the ground in a bottom position. Tim lands in side control and can very easily pop back up to his feet if necessary; going to the ground and trying to play around in guard should never be a choice you make, but a strong wrestler landing in top position can very easily disengage if necessary.
