Excessive rust is an ugly sight. To cure our Caprice of this ailment, we physically cut out the rusty panel, ground out any corroded spots, and replaced it all with some new metal.

Those little tack welds every inch or two is a welding procedure called bridging. It allows the heat of the weld to dissipate throughout the metal with alot less chance of warping or the weld falling thru from to much heat buildup. I learned that procedure from a 50 year old Boilermaker back in 1988. That man taught me more in two weeks about welding than any other single person in my life

@@Iwillnotbepushed Now its your turn to pass that knowledge down to the younger generation. @@mikhail2400As a software developer I get the satisfaction of a job no one has to do anymore because I automated it. It can be equally as satisfying when millions of people use what you built, even if it's "just" software. I still like to work on my car, build furniture, etc. - physical and digital projects are not mutually exclusive, one can enjoy both. I had a job where I worked long shifts with dirty hands and sweat in my face for 8 years, and I can only say: Just do what makes you happy. Claiming that people with different jobs cannot feel happy when they complete a project will not make you happier.

The bad part about having an 20 year old truck is that the paint from back in the day doesn't hold up as good as today's weather proof paint. The good part about having an old truck is that it was made absolutely bomb-proof and structures were thick as hell, so it could take 15 years of rust before it was structurally damaged. Today's car paneling and structures are so thin that only 5 years of rust will start affecting the structure, or they're not even made of steel at all, it's all aluminum and plastic.

🤦‍♀️. This is what not to do😑. Using a body saw means that you're not unnecessarily heating the metal that you're trying to save. Better yet get nibblers. If you don't have the correct tools leave it alone until you do. Also there is two part epoxy so you no longer have to weld🙄.
