Thank you! Yes, you can spray the hair if it gets dry so you can keep the hair elasticity at the same stretching level as you wind the perm. The solution is strong, it will penetrate regardless. Good luck with your perm.

Very interesting. I have thick and naturally straight hair. Been trying to figure out how to properly use the perm rods I bought (was looking for velcro rollers, but the sales person recommended these instead) and been failing in setting my hair. Thank you so much for this tutorial! I have truly learned a lot from this. My aunt used to take my sister (9yrs old) and I (12yrs old) to get our hair permed. It was a whole day process so we had to miss school for it. Mines would take but my sister's hair wouldn't. The stylist would perm her hair a second time and over time my sister's hair would break off and she always have a bold spot in the back middle section of her head. The only time her hair grew is when it is was chemical free. She's now 27yrs old and her hair is just now starting to growing for her.

Yes, you can change your curl pattern or the curl size if you have curly hair. It lasts until the new growth comes out.

Yes. Also, to make overly curly hair to form a more manageable curl, there is also the soft curl permanent wave which first needs to be chemically softened with the Thio cream, then permed.

I just got a body perm today, and I LOVE IT!!!! I had stick straight hair, and NO volume. Getting the perm made my hair have volume, and was super curly!!!! It was really a simple process. Yes, you can; there are larger perm rods of orange and purplish color that are the size of the small blue rollers used for the roller set; that is a good size for large curls.

Yes, the lady doing the demo was born in middle east, but was raised in U.S. If you want pin straight, do a Brazilian Blowout or a Keratin Straightener. Straight perm still needs maintenance, like occasional flat ironing.

It all depends how coarse or thick your hair is. If it is thick, you can go with white or gray, and it will be fine. But, the best way to know what perm rod to use it to take a hair strand and wind a perm rod on it, If it winds two and a half times, or more, that is a good perm rod for you, if it does not wind two and a half times, that rod is too large. So, take the white and grey rods, and wind each of them on a strand and check. Pink rod could make your hair look too curly. Hope this helps!

Another way to check it, besides what was written in the first message to you, is to wrap the perm rods on a strand, hold the hot air from the blow dryer on it, and unwind. This strand test will give you a visual of which perm rods to use without wasting your time and unnecessarily damaging your hair.

The band has to be straight across the perm rod; if it is twisted on the curler, it will break the hair by not allowing the hair to expand, since the perm solution makes the hair to swell and expand once it is applied to the hair. At state board they use water, but we have to show that we care for the integrity of the hair.

You can get another perm, but wait a little, perming the hair too soon will damage it more. If you want a nice wave, the orange rods (even purple ones) will work best. If you are not happy for your recent small curl, invest in a curling iron ( a larger barrel than the size of your curls) and curt them. Also keep conditioning your hair. One other advise; vinegar water loosens the curl. Try some vinegar water on a small strand, comb it, and rinse. If it loosens your curl use it on the whole hair

If your hair is long, it could be deprived of your natural oil, so it will be dry, and, yes, the perm is drying and might damage your hair. There is a possibility of hair breakage, too; so, if you don't really need a perm, don't do it. Reversing a perm will cost you more damage. The best way is either cut your hair a little shorter to get rid of damaged ends, or use electric or simple curlers to curl. Hope this helps.

Yes, you can get another perm, but use larger perm rods. But, remember, more perm solution will make your hair more damaged, so you need to use any styling aid that controls frizz, like Biosilk or Proclaim.

Yes, all the perms can be used for bigger curls, just chose a bigger perm rod: that is what determines the size of the curl. I believe it is the orange or purple color perm rods.

You are right, there are Thio Relaxers that are less alkaline and they are gentler to the hair than the sodium, but to be honest, all chemicals that penetrate the hair cortex do damage the hair to some extend.

It has to be long enough to be wounded on the perm rod for two and a half times; if it can go around a larger perm rod like that, it will be wavy, as you want. The size of the perm rod determines the size of the curl of the hair.

Hi, the top of the hair could have been damaged and porous from the sun, or vigorous brushing, blow dry styling, flat ironing or chemicals, and possibly that is why the perm took faster and the hair became frizzy. If the person has a lot of body heat on the top, that could make the perm over-process, too. If the hair is damaged, next time use a pre-wrap solution; like a hair filler to equalize the porosity.

All private schools take students who are 18 and over, but, some public occupational centers have ROP programs; they take hight school students, age 16. You can search your area for occupational centers that have young adult programs and, if you get in, you might even get high school credit. Good luck!

Better to color the hair after the perm, since the perm will remove some of the color if you do it before. When you color a week after a perm, if you have roots, color the roots first, wait for 30 minutes, then do the ends, if it is a retouch, because the ends will turn darker if you put color on the entire hair. It shouldn't, if the hair does not get too much damaged with the color; high volume peroxide or bleach used on hair for the long time could damage and loosen the curls. Ask the hairdresser do a strand test to see the end result before coloring the whole hair.

Oh, you mean the endothermic perms that require heat! Those take longer to process, but are more gentle to the hair. The procedure is the same, you just sit the client under the heat. :D

If you have dark hair, it will look best to have dark blond streaks or light brown streaks, since too much contrast does not look natural and can make you look older. Do your streaks after the perm, otherwise the perm will damage and decolorize you streaks if you do them before the perm.

The best way to avoid problems with any product or product company, if there is any liability issue, is to FOLLOW THE MANUFACTURER'S INSTRUCTIONS. Although this video has the general perming procedure, some perms could have an activator to be mixed with the solution, or a pre-perm lotion; there are different perms out there. If it doesn't coincide with this procedure, it will be better to follow the instructions on the box of the perm that you are going to use. Hope this helps :D

Wow!! This video is amazing, I had no idea you could achieve curls like that and they could remain permanent. I plan on bleaching and coloring my curly extensions to get a bright look but I'm worried the bleach will mess up the curl pattern. The perm lasts on hair until the hair is cut away; in other words: it is permanent, but the new growth needs to be retouched after couple of months, although I have had long haired clients who had perm 2 years ago and it still had curl at the ends. Just don't use vinegar and lemon juice on your hair; it relaxes the curls. Also, don't shampoo your hair for 2 days after the perm; that will relax your perm also.

If your hair does not have artificial haircolor any longer, then you don't have to ask for a special perm, any perm will do: don't let them hike up the price for that, but if you have damaged or dry hair, then they might ask you for extra to control your hair porosity: that will be a legitimate price increase.

It is better to get human hair extensions that are wavy or curly rather than perm them, because they would get damaged and tangled. It also depends if the extensions are all make of single person's hair or are mixed with different individuals' hair.

All perm products are somewhat the same with the ingredients. Perming wig hair could be tricky, even Yaki hair. No matter what the sellers say, sometimes the hair could have come from different people, and perm result might not be the same all over the hair, plus, if the hair has been tinted, or processed, that could be a problem, too. In any case, I would suggest CAREFUL PERMING WIG HAIR, do a strand test first. But in case, Feels So Lively or Quantium are good enough perms.

I have not used that one, but you can do just one strand to check; also try Quantum perms has good perms for different texture hair, Zotos; Feels so Lively works well, too, Superstar is the cheapest one: most perms have the same ingredient; Ammonium Thioglycolate, so it is a matter of appeal and accessibility; try one, and if it works, that is the one for you. Some chose one that has less pungent smell; but most of them smell anyway from ammonia. A local salon and supply will have suggestions.

It is hard to straighten it at home; at least chemically. The best way to straighten your wavy hair is to get a Keratin Hair Straightening done by a professional. Hope this helps!
