I would love an editing photo on this kind of shooting. I have a D850 and this gave me a lot of great information. Thanks!

That is great to hear, thank you for your feedback! D850 is a BEAST, plenty of dynamic range.

This was fantastic, magnificent and inspiring. Loved the mix of flowers and stars. I don’t have a lot of experience with astro-photography, so I have nothing to share regarding settings. I have a Z7 and more lenses than I need to get out there and make it happen. My son and I keep talking about it, but our schedules never seem to be in sync. The good news is your video has given me more to work with. Thanks for sharing your photos and techniques.

Thank you for the feedback! It's great to hear that the video provided some useful tips for you. With a Z7 in hand, you're well-equipped for astro-photography. Another comment mentioned that the Z7 was a beast for night photography so you should try it out! I hope you and your son find the time to give it a shot soon. Thanks for watching and good luck with your photography! 📷🌌

Great content, thanks. I’d love for you to explore the processing of, for example, a well lit sunflower image with great color and a Milky Way image. That editing process with ‘best practices’ would be wonderful! Thank you from Sedona.

Glad you liked the video, thank you! A few people have asked for an editing process, so I think I need to do one. Stay tuned, and I hope to bring this idea to life in a future video. Thanks again for your input and support!

Where I live I get a lot of planes going by how can I take those lines out of my pictures?
@MattShannonPhoto
@MattShannonPhoto 2 ай бұрын
Great question! To remove plane trails from your Milky Way or star trail images, you have a few options. Capture Multiple Exposures: Instead of a single long exposure, take multiple shorter ones and stack them later in editing. This way, you can use software like Photoshop to mask out the frames with planes in them. Lightroom/Photoshop Editing: If you end up with a plane trail in an otherwise perfect shot, you can use the healing or clone stamp tool in Lightroom or Photoshop to remove the lines manually. Plan Your Shots: If possible, check flight paths or shoot at times with fewer flights to minimize the chances of trails in your images. Give these a try, and soon, you’ll be getting clean star shots!

I found the Z8 sensor to be ok with milky way shots but where the Z5/Z6 really shine is with the low light night sky photos. I was really really impressed with the Z 50mm f1.8, of course the 20mm is a must have as well. Clear Skies!

How timely. I hope to go out next week photographing the Milky Way in the mountains of Colorado. I use a 24mp Fuji XT2 with the Viltrox 13mm f1.4 (20mm FF equivalent) at 20 sec exposures..

Yes, glad to hear it! I was a little rushed for time due to the smoke from all of the wildfires here in Canada. The next day we had thick smoke. Later this month there is a Super Blue Moon which will be nice to photograph. 13mm f/1.4 sounds perfect! I hope you get some stunning shots!

Hi Matt, On the Photopills app how did you get the times with the arrows around the circle on the planner you show in the video, cheer
@MattShannonPhoto
@MattShannonPhoto Жыл бұрын
Ok, let me see if I can do a good job explaining this in a comment 😁. In the app, click on the planner icon that brings you to the map. Then look down at the bottom right, above the timeline are three icons. From left to right you have the marker icon (x with a circle above it). Then you have a + icon, and last a layers icon. The layers icon is what you want to open up where you will see a list of features you can add to your map. The arrows I believe are the moon light direction markers. There is an eye icon next to each feature you can turn on and off. If there is a line crossed through the eye, it is turned off. Play around with the features and let me know if that does the trick!

The second image of the MW with the Z9 ~ were you getting a marine layer forming/moisture on the lens? The stars seemed diffused unlike the D850 image. I can't shoot at sea level when the MW is good.
@MattShannonPhoto
@MattShannonPhoto Жыл бұрын
yes both that and light pollution for the town close by. It wasn't a great spot for MW shooting, except for the sunflowers being a great subject to shoot in the foreground. Oh, and the fact that this location is only 10 mins from where I live which is nice. Later in the night as the MW moved in the sky I got slightly better or worse shots depending on the position of the MW and light pollution. Probably some fog rolling in off the ocean close by too. Lots of factors. Now we have smoke from the forest fires. I barely got the content I did before the skies turned pale.
@19Photographer76
@19Photographer76 Жыл бұрын
@@MattShannonPhoto At least you have a great foreground to use in the future. The fires on the CA/OR border are coming right up the coastline.
