Funny guy. nice quick review of the Stetsons. So the Catera from The Gun Club collection. I see they are 5x. It's a good beginner's hat I've had mine since 2012. It's a little stiff, with thick felt. I had 3brass eyelets put in on each side for ventilation, I may just get rid of the liner. Only problem is that the car head rest gets in the way of wearing the hat.

Lewis Ward yeah, pull the liner out, if u are bald, or balding, keep it, so u don’t get sweatstains on the hat. that is a great hat, super quality, no way to get around the car headreast thing, get a driving cap? 🤪

Caps are not my thing. Though a good Baseball hat works some nights. Hair's thinning not balding. At least there's no plastic crown piece that really blocks the moisture from escaping. Sometimes I want to raise the crown a little to provide more head room. Stiff felt, a professional could do it.

I have a Stetson Broken Bow XXXX that had I reshaped. It didn't quite fit my head but it was the perfect color to turn into an old school tan campaign cover like what the Army used to wear before WWl. Figured I'd knock two birds out with one stone and make it into one. Well, long story short it was too tall for that so I put a dimple in the middle. So from the top it looks like a diamond. Dimple on top and two dimples in the front and two identical in the back. I was accosted by a Mojave Viper recently (light green rattlesnake, just a bit smaller than most diamond backs). I skinned it and made it into a hat band with a chocolate brown leather wrap on the side to tie it together. I cut two diamonds out of the leather so you could see the snake skin through it. I also took a long strip of old saddle leather and punched a hole on either side of the barrel then ran it along the back as a strap. I think it turned out okay. Was wondering, if you didn't get bored reading this already, what that type of crown that would be called?

J.B. Browning don’t think I can’t tell u by the description, but it sounds like your own creation. Four pinches on top (that forms a point) is called a Montana peak, but this sounds a little different

My $1000 Milano hat is something similar to the Stetson Rancher hat. It’s called the “Governor - Platinum” or something. Can’t be found anymore. Extremely soft feel to it!

Quick question if you're able to answer: I just got a Stetson Pawnee -- and I'm curious - how soft is the hat supposed to be? The one I've got is extremely soft, to the point where I can easily deform the crown, and the brim folds from the weight of the hat when held on its own. I've got two other hats that are extremely stiff, so I'm curious if it's just a Pawnee thing.

It is just worn it starts off hard and softens as you use it It should be so so soft but it’s no big deal, if it bothers you,it can be stiffened but it fine.. some hats just wear in faster than others

That is a hat that is no longer made, unfortunately the company went bankrupt,and when they returned, they were totally different. It’s a Borsalino hat in Kelly green. similar to the model we have now called The Seville. In shape, but it has that black ribbon binding on the edge of the brim, and the Seville has a simpler edge. Model was called The Classico plus, but that’s a name we invented, it was a custom style, not a model u can order from them anymore.. we sell a hat called the Ontario that comes in colors like mine, Royal blue, pink, red, light blue, rust.. it’s also very similar. jj a sure,these Stetson westerns cost about $235-265 on average, a crushable,wool-felt hat is cheaper, about $110-$125. I’d say these are average prices, our hats start at 110 and average $200

Thomas Magain the best thing is to find a real authentic shop with a huge selection, try one smaller hats, bigger hats, dark, light, and see how u feel in them,the answer comes to you, if u take your time,don’t rush..take time in the mirror, and keep going,eliminate the ones u aren’t completely comfortable with,and narrow t down..don’t rush, don’t settle. these hats last many decades,so make your choice count. b f the Gambler in black is a surprisingly easy hat to wear, you’re tall enough, sometimes it’s all about just “owning it”, enjoying it.. u stand taller, look confident and the hat looks better.. I think the Royal Flush is a great hat, if u are ok with a stiffer, Western weight felt hat, it’s a low crown, not a huge brim..and fantastic in snow and rain.. it also comes in a bone color (Silver Belly) www.jjhatcenter.com I am back to work tomorrow if u have any questions..

Hi Kevin please I want your advise about this, I found a place where there are several hats from the 50’s-60’s from an excellent brand in México called Tardán, beaver and rabbit fur felt hats, the problem is that they are size 55. Do you think that is it right to stretch the hats until 57 or 7 1/8 without lose it’s form or design? I saw in one of your videos that we can stretch a hat!! But is this too much? They are great quality. Please help me with this advise, what is your thinking about this?

No way, not even close. That’s why they’re available, those are so small nobody can wear them, plenty of gems out there in 55, and the vintage ones are all dehydrated and feel like 54. You can’t stretch those to your size without destroying them, not even close. You need to watch more of my videos, 😸✌️ the stretching thing works for less than a size, like a third of the way between a 55 and 56. That hat is not a true 55 either, I would bet if u measured it, it’s a 54 or less. There’s a reason why these hats lasted so long, if they were a desirable size, the price shoots up another 100-200 dollars each.. or more. even stretching halfway to 56 will show so many stretch marks,tear the leather band and then u lose height in the crown and length of brim, the shape shrinks too.. that felt has to come from someplace else, it isn’t stretchy..the felt just gets redistributed fro the crown and brim to the large size. By the time u stretch it to a real 56, that hat will be totaled..forget about 57.

Stretching barely works, it’s for stretching a fraction of a size,it always affects the hat negatively,even a small stretch. don’t ever buy a vintage hat too tight, you need to subtract another size for dehydration of the leather band, if it’s 55, think of it as a 54. Forget these, it’s nothing special to find a cool vintage hat in 55, they’re kind of all 55’s, if u keep searching.. I’d avoid those. Don’t buy a vintage hat tight, at all..the leather is also going to be dry, any sort of stretch will tear it...if anything buy 7 1/4.. vintage hats are always small.. you’ll notice a huge price hike when u get to 7 1/8 and 1/4.. I’d avoid going even a tiny bit tight, you’ll regret it. I definitely can’t stretch it unless there’s no other option and the person already owns a hat.. and they’re okay with the hat getting severely mangled up, as long as it fits.. the end result is not pretty, and humbly speaking, I’m the best at those extreme stretches.. go large, but never tight, I always regret it..learn from my mistakes.

Whats the difference between the pawnee and dune?

Pawnee is better felt, more of a real western , it has more of a curved brim, the dune is flatter and just downturned. The Pawnee has a leather western band, the dune has a ribbon band. Pawnee has a rougher,more rugged finish while the Dune has a smoother texture. I don’t recommend Dunes for Rain, the Pawnee is a much better performing hat. If there’s little rain near you, then it’s not a big deal,but yeah, Pawnee is a real western,while the Dune is a crossover hat, more like an outback hat made of thinner, yet stiff felt. I believe the Pawnee has thicker western felt

The Texas Rangers wear the Cattleman and the Rancher in silver belly. They are allowed other colors except for black. The black is prohibited. I love your videos. You are lodes with hat knowledge.

It's got a lower cattleman's crease and bound edge, it looks sort of like an open road with a little brim shaping with a bit of western roll. My guess is that. But the brim seems bigger..like 3" in some shots, like a Stetson Calico with the lanyard removed a cattleman's crease and western roll added..

What I have found out from Google is it was a special hat made for Carroll Shelby with a lower crown and smaller brim . But it is a Stetson made in Garland , Tx . at the Stetson factory.

My Rancher is from the 1980s, I think. It's a 4X Beaver and has a 3 1/2 inch brim, not the 4 incher they make now. 4X was higher quality back then. No Beaver in 4X now.

Well, I don't walk around slapping all the hats ..just occasionally in a video,I'll slap one hat. It doesn't affect it at all. We have hundreds and hundreds of that model that have never been slapped.😁 We can offer you one of those,fresh from the box. They're merchandise, and I have respect for all the hats, I've spent 25 years dusting those hats,every day.. They're beautiful hats,not exactly sacred or works of art, I'd say more like beautiful clothing or headwear, but I can understand your comment. Sorry i slapped the hats, I'll try not to in the future.

$275 but they don’t arrive until mid September, when felt season starts, they’re shipping all straws now, we carry it in three colors usually, but in the last year we had so many big sales, they all blew out quickly, I think there’s only one size left in black now. That’s how folks get to know the weight, texture, softeners and stiffness of a hat over the net, it doesn’t have any effect on the hats.. that’s expensive merchandise, I wouldn’t mess around w them if it was bad for them

Tall, or just really into the cowboy thing. It is a big crown, but I do see short people and ladies wearing it a lot, it looks very,very cowboy..the Tycoon is the exact hat with a low crown, fancy trim and super grade beaver felt. It costs a lot but it had the specifications u might want, probably last a lifetime too..

Good question, in a way.. yes, it’s a tall hat. I’d say, u don’t need to be tall, average is ok, but if u are very short, like 5’2” it probably won’t work,
