I practiced this on my gun lock with a bobby pin and figured it out after an hour and a half it takes extreme patience. Tips I have for new lock pickers is yes you do have to apply some pressure turning the key hole but try not to over kill it because the harder you turn it the harder it will be to push a seized pin up(but at the same time you have to apply enough pressure for the pin to get stuck). Another thing is to feel the spring pushing the pins and if you feel the spring that means that you cannot lock that pin in place and if you don’t feel the spring that means it’s the seized pin and you need to push it. Only one pin will be stuck at one time and once you push that pin up another pin will become stuck and then you need to push that one. This probably makes zero sense but it was worth a shot I guess.

I made a pick and tension tool from the steel rods that run down a wiper blade (mechanic with free time). I immediately proceeded to lock my keys in my toolbox with them in like two minutes. It took me another 40 to get back in. I have a qwik-pick in my car that has been handy a few times. My car lockout kit is worth its weight in gold. I had to break into my car once with three coat hangers and some pieces of pine after my wife locked my keys in it. Good equipment is definitely the way to go.

Excellent! 👍 a few yrs back, my Sgt purchased my entire team our personal pick set. I've kept it in my War bag all these years and have used it to bypass gates and lock doors for compliance checks.... my daughter was about 8 years old at the time and within a few minutes she learned how to bypass our side garage door with my lock pick set... that let me know vulnerable locks are on homes....

A little late to the game here, but it may help to clarify a couple of terms. Tension is actually a pulling force. When you stretch a rubber band, you are applying tension. When two people are pulling a rope from opposite directions, they are tensioning the rope. When you are applying a rotational force to the lock plug while manipulating the bottom pins, the force in play is actually torque (not tension). Carry on..... :-)

It’s all feel John. Easy on the tension wrench. If you set a pin to high Let go of your tension and start over. What I like to do is feel the pins with the pick prior to applying tension. To feel where they are. I find a lot of locks pick easier if you start at the last pin. Practice practice.

As a cctv installer and locksmith this was very entertaining. Tip 1 never train to pick with the lock in your hand put it in a vice or on the door and kneel just like you would in real life. Tip 2 remove all the pins but one and pick it then add one by one until you get all 5 or 6 depending. you should be able to do it with your eyes closed. Tip 3 after you get that one down try another keyway maybe go from sc1 to a y1 (kw1 is a joke my 6 year old can do that one). Tip 4 always use lube before you stick your little pick in. It helps. And that's it just the tip for you
