How to pick the best blue light blocking glasses?
1. Always consider getting a blue block coating on your prescription glasses.
2. For Digital Eye Strain during the day: Clearer lenses that block at peak 455nm of light (check to see if the company has a spectral analysis). Remember, studies are mixed if these will actually help you are not.
3. To Help with Sleep, or you are working on screens near bed time: get tinted lenses, yellow, orange, amber, red (with progressively blocking more blue light) to help with your sleep cycle.
4. Look for lenses with A/R coating on front and back surface.
Do anti blue light glasses even work? Dr. EyeGuy explains the science behind blue light glasses. You will also find mini reviews of some glasses in this video. Also consider blue filters on your phones and computer screens.

I used to go walking at night under amber street lights which was very peaceful and calming, then the town put in LEDs. As soon as I got near to one, my calm went and was replaced by a feeling of agitation, annoyance, and almost an angry feeling. I think these high doses of artificial blue light are making people wacked out. Would we have all this drama if we all still lived by candle light?

@@homelander613 I have those orange/amber ones that block 99.9% of blue light and I know they do because when I look at my blue LED bulb, I can't see the light, it's invisible. The only problem with these glasses is that the world around you is literally orange in colour so you have to compromise between how much protection you want versus how much colour you want to see, so the yellow ones are the perfect sweet spot for me

Thank you ever so much for undertaking this research and offering your invaluable insights. I actually purchased one for my sister from Ocushield, and they have been brilliant, particularly in terms of quality. Not only that, she used to experience migraines and headaches previously. However, since she started using them, they have almost disappeared. I conversed with the customer service, and they also provided the test results and reports, which were fantastic. It all revolved around the light spectrum and the quantity of blue light that is presently blocked.

@@Pfromm007 Hi there. Anything helps. It's a reduction of the side effects we want to prevent after all. On some devices, you can determine the intensity. So for example, if you're gaming or watch movies, you probably don't want to block all of the blue light, but when working in an office, you can go wild with it, because there isn't much your word, excel or whatever, is needing here.

Another thing to take into consideration is with the rise of people on the road with newer cars or vehicles LED lights are a standard and many people upgrade to LED headlights. the problem with that is the LED generates blue light. Bluelight can also cause headache or migranes. So you may want to get Anti-Bluelight glasses if you are driving a lot when it's dark.

the problem is actually much simpler: they are too bright. the blue has nothing to do with it. if blue light was meaningfully harmful to us, we would have quickly evolved to avoid seeing it, what with the entire sky being blue and all.

I was reading that there's natural blue light in the sun that you will not want to block because it can harm the sleeping routine. So will I have problems for everyday all day long usage of this kind of glasses? I'm pretty active person and live on the beach during the summer and in the mountains during the winter, but I work on a pc so I was thinking this can prevent harming my eyes from my work. I was actually looking at Clear-Transition lenses which go darker in the sun :)

Are all variates of Gunnar glasses lenses made out of exactly the same material or similar, but with just one additional material that would change the color of lenses, in order words is the main base material the same? Also, based on the video I get the impression that wavelenghts that are higher that are higher than ~455nm do not effect your eyestrain, headaches, etc.

This is great! Thanks for doing this. I started selling and recommending anti-bluelight glasses in 2015. I buy and try all and have found through the years that more and more "good" brands are standing by the claims of the "blocking ability" I've had 20 different brands tested by a military grade optics lab for Transmittance and Optical Density. The one's I sell are just $15.00 AND- I would like your comment on this: They are wrap types to Block the light that comes from the top and sides. For me, that's super important. Also- I can't stand the red color- I can't see in the dark(!) I found a Green color that's so incredibly pleasant and blocks 100% of 460- which the latest research is the most important wavelength and 99% of 400nm to 500nm. You're tips are great. Check out the newer research that's honing in on more benefits. Be Well! August

Do you think if I just buy regular red-tinted lens glasses and bring them to a shop to coat with a blue blocker filter, would that work? Bought a new monitor and it was set by default super bright, reduced the gamma , brightness and contrast to half but it kinda irritated my eyes a bit . Gonna buy a pair of blue light glasses as i work long hours into the night making 3d characters for games. Using some yellow UV glasses i bought a while ago for uv blocking when curing uv resin, it's in the 405 nm range, as i work with color i need clear glasses. Does Windows Night mode actually work?

If you want to block out all blue light, and don't care about a color difference, than go foe the yellow, orange glasses, like the horus x

Would à blue light protective screen on an iPad be more or as protective than wearing glasses with such protection. Thank you
@DrEyeGuy
@DrEyeGuy Жыл бұрын
It depends on what type of glasses you ate comparing to. The protective screens usually only block a certain amount, and then you would still have blue light coming from other sources, which isn't necessarily bad. Depends on how serious you want to get about blocking blue light.

Do you think Nike blue light glasses are good? They have blue light reducing anti-reflective a/r coating, they’re scratch and smudge resistant, and they have UV protection against sun and environmental light

I'm working on detailed, colour illustrations on an iPad. Sometimes for 12 hours a day. Recently I've been getting bad headaches. I don't want glasses that affect the colours on the screen but I would like to reduce the blue & amber light as much as possible. What do you suggest?
@janhavi7576
@janhavi7576 6 ай бұрын
It might be (at least partly) the microwaves coming off the ipad, especially at close-range - they are well-known to cause headaches for many people (of course big tech will claim total safety). Often the symptoms of microwave exposure are additive - like the exposure level you used to be able to handle eventually causes an obvious problem. Twelve hours a day is a long time. I have plenty of personal experience with headaches from microwave devices. Terrible headaches. I don't use them anymore. My computer is wired, no wireless, and 15 feet away. I am on an extended keyboard with a large monitor and mouse. A setup like this could easily be used to do art, but is not very portable (:

Hey Dr EyeGuy do you turn on the Blue Light Filter on your monitor and phone?
@DrEyeGuy

Yep, that can help as well. That still won't block the blue light coming from the lights in your home though.

I looked up those lenses. Because I can't speak Spanish, I'm not sure about the specifics of the lenses. I'm not sure if they have the number "400" because they block the lower wavelengths of blue light, which is ok, but you want to block higher wavelengths as wll.
