As far as carry on I used to use hard size clam shell but now I use a soft side cavernous one. I like the room to organize as I wish. Must have at least one pocket on the outside for small extras. My personal item is the same. One open bag with one side pocket to hold wallet, passport, phone. Maybe sunglasses. I’m not a minimalist but because of weight and restrictions I have disciplined myself. I had a bad experience carrying heavy bags and lighter is the way to go. 😊

HI @Beacon631 ! I pack like you do, except I do use a clam shell for my carry-on. After getting caught once with a bag sizer I am very careful about those outside pockets. I am not a minimalist either, but I have found that there is a level of joy, with traveling with less but well-picked items. I am going to be doing that on a group trip with my friends and my girlfriend wants me to help her pick out her wardrobe for the trip, since they saw the last time how easy it was for me to get around when we moved to different cities

HI @jc42598 ! Well, I have a confession. I'm a bit of a bag hoarder. I always kid around and say that it's because I have big feet, that are wide in the front and narrow in the back (I do) , which means I can't shop for shoes! 🤣🤣 But seriously, if you do travel enough like me, then you do find that that updates in bag technology and also new restrictions, do mean you need a new bag.

I now have to use a walker, which counts as my carry-on, so I am limited to a personal item as my luggage. So far, the underseat pro seems to be the most optional for me, although I have been eyeing a couple of your other suggestions 😊
@PerriesPassport
@PerriesPassport Күн бұрын
Hi @debrastewart-leigh8845 ! Your walker counts as a carry on???? That's insane! Have you checked that out on your airlines? Anyhow, my two favorite rollers for maxing out the inner space is the Underseat Pro and "Take Off", but I will be reviewing two smaller personal size items that I like. Also a good jacket with lots of pockets can be your 'Personal Item". It's a good way to get some more space, if you need it.
@debrastewart-leigh8845
@debrastewart-leigh8845 Күн бұрын
@PerriesPassport yes, it's a medically assisted device so they can't gate check it, but it then counts as my carryon. I wasn't thinking about a jacket, but that's an excellent idea! I'm also looking forward to your review. Thank you!!

@@debrastewart-leigh8845 That sounds so wrong, but we all have to play within the system. I think I'm going to try out a ScottEvest. They are supposed to be amazing. But I did review jackets with many pockets. Check it out here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/j6XLoKCseb92btk

I have a lot of different personal items, too. My packing strategy has evolved as airlines have gotten more stringent with carry on rules. Like you mentioned, it depends on what type of trip I'm taking and where I'm going, to decide on which personal item to bring. It seems most often that what I take for my personal item is either a backpack (love, love, love my Ecohub 18" backpack that I got on Amazon or if I can get by with a smaller backpack, I bring the Travelon Anti-Theft Classic backpack) or a duffle bag. Great video!
@PerriesPassport
@PerriesPassport 2 күн бұрын
HI @sherryschumacher1881 I have never tried the Ecohub. What do you think is its best feature? I have used the Travelon Anti-Theft Classic but it is a really small bag, and I prefer the Mygreen Tokyo Tote Messenger Backpack. You might want to check it out. It works with most of the airlines with smaller restrictions.

For Lufthansa airlines, their personal item bag size limit is 15.5 x 11.5 x 4 inches. Yes, 4 inches. I don't know where they come up with 4 inches. I was able to fit my 6-inch thick backpack under the seat with no problem. Rolling personal item bags I'd stay away from. I would use that for a carry-on, since those bags probably won't fit under the seat on all airlines. Especially some European airlines, since their standards are smaller. And United's standards seem to be on the small side for a personal item bag.
@PerriesPassport
@PerriesPassport Күн бұрын
HI @randykirby2326 I have flown Lufthansa and they really don't enforce that 4 inch rule. I use a 6 inch bag with them, too. And I have to agree with you... where did they come up with that 4 inch bag?I've seen fatter handbags, LOL.

Hi @SimplyKatieWalks ! I reviewed the Nomad Lane Bento bag, and I know that there are die hard Bento Bag fans, but I found the bag to weigh a ton to start and the irregular shape a bit hard to pack. I like the design of multiple points of entry, but the Bagsmart bag had that, too. The V2 version of the bag is on sale right now, so you can check it out. Hope all is well with you and the hubby!

I prefer clamshell bags for carry-on and personal it bags. I’m an organization nut and that style offers more organization than the bucket style bags or the bags that only open half way (like standard totes and backpacks.) They also offer easy storage of my stuff in a hotel, Air’b’nb or someone’s home. (I just leave my packing cubes in the bag.) My personal it bag needs to have “enough” easy-access pockets, for quick-grab-and-store items that I need frequently, like wallet, phone, id, keys, hand sanitizer etc.
@PerriesPassport
@PerriesPassport Күн бұрын
Hi @tanyas6643 I agree with you about the personal item bag having organization, but I am very careful about those external pockets since I am always concerned about getting caught at the sizers. That's why I like having my airline comfort bag with me, so I can still get everything easily, even if the bag does not have a lot of pockets.
@tanyas6643
@tanyas6643 Күн бұрын
@ I never pack my personal item bag to the max… especially any of the outside pockets. It only contains my laptop, tablet, e-reader, charging accessories, makeup, toiletries, a compression packing cube with my “emergency clothing” - 2 tops, a few pairs of undies and socks, pjs, slippers and a pair of lounge pants. The only items that “permanently” go in the outside pockets, are my wallet, phone and ID and my “seat bag”. I also store a clear pouch with any of my small rechargeable electronics and the liquids bag, until I’m past TSA. Once I’m done, I move them into the inside of the personal item bag. That keeps the bulging of the outside pockets minimal if at all.

@ 😂I’m a planner and organizer (my husband - who is a “more spontaneous” and “let’s just wing it” guy - calls me “obsessed”). I like my things to be easy to find and “in its most sensible place”. I’m an ER nurse, that often does contract work that requires travel… but also occasionally moonlight for a “medical appliance” company as a “product educator”, which means travel to presentations and conferences. So when I’m away from home and things can get very hectic, my stuff is not something they stresses me out.

Hi @carlarice6775 I hear you! I got into doing this on youtube because I couldn't make up my mind between 3 viral backpacks and found I had to order them to decide which one actually worked for me (they were all quite different it turns out), and I decided I enjoyed doing videos. Who had thunk? That being said, sometimes you do have to try out a bag with what you think you are going to take with you to make the decision.

I would love your opinion and to see a pack out video of the LUUX duffle bag that completely opens up and holds a lot. I would use it as my carry on and put it on top of my Take Off rolling suitcase that fits under the seat. It’s a different approach I know but I wear a Scotte Vest for my most important items and my comfort items so the rest would work. Thank you. P.S. I’m not affiliated with Luux in any way. It just looks interesting.
@PerriesPassport
@PerriesPassport 2 күн бұрын
Hi @monicawilson896 OMG! That is a totally different approach. Love the idea of using the "Take Off bag as a personal item and then putting the rest in your personal items in a ScottEvest. But I have to ask, why the duffel instead of just a carry-on? Do you have business attire that you need to keep neat?
@monicawilson896
@monicawilson896 Күн бұрын
@@PerriesPassport I don’t have a need for business attire. I just saw a a video today put out by Luux Bags and I like the way she packed the pink bag. It wasn’t long or business clothes on a hanger. It was outfits folded all along the length and then once folded part way more clothes were stacked in the body cavity with other miscellaneous items. I was surprised how much it fit and still fit in the carry on tester. I wouldn’t want to carry it all over the airport so putting it on top of a rolling suitcase that can be used as a personal item seems ideal. I don’t know if it has a trolly sleeve. I think the ones with exterior pockets does. Long winded of me. Sorry. Love your channel.

The biggest decision point for me picking the personal item bag for travel is if I need to carry my lap top for work purposes.
@PerriesPassport
@PerriesPassport 2 күн бұрын
Hi @Nancy-w6f I have to agree with that. I need a dedicated computer sleeve. If the bag is structured so I can put my computer into its bag and get it in, I'll deal with it, but it is not my preferred way of storing it.
